Thanks for asking, my brother is in LTC and he seemed happier than I so I thought I would give it a try. There is such a big range of LTC facilites, some very good, some very bad. I think I found one of the better ones. It is a safe dementia unit. I always though it was silly to blame the staff of institutions for restraining people but then blame them at the same time if those same confused people wandered away. It is very difficult for the clients to get out but at the same time they have plenty of room to wander and plenty of things to do to keep them entertained. The pay is not very good and the staff to patient ratio could be better but it is close to home, I will not have to drive miles and miles when winter gets here. How are you? Seems you only drop in once in a while and post.

Hi PPL!! How are you? Where have you been? And how did your last staff QA/ customer service meeting go anyway?

I am happy for you too Oramar. I am nervous about agency work Oramar but I am also looking forward to the change. Well, at least the change in pay. I know the work will be the same no matter where i go, but at least I have a nicer pimp. LOL!

PPL have you considered agency? Set your own hours and the pay is REALLY good?! No one telling you that you have to work X amount of weekend time and holidays etc. I am actually going to get to go home for Christmas and New Years this year, and that has me on cloud nine about the whole thing.

Tell us what you've been up to woman! Enquiring minds want to know! We missed you.

A FEW THOUGHTS ON AGENCY....I did agency during the last nursing shortage, it was stressful but I loved the money and the control over my schedule. However as with everything there is a downside. When the tight job market came I got caught like a candle in the wind, unable to get agency work and unable to get a steady job because most hospitals were laying off. When things seemed darkest the head nurse on one of the units where I worked agency offered me a job. I could tell she liked me and was giving me a break. Later I found out she was a student on the unit where I had worked about 10 years before and she really appreciated how kind I had been to her. I did not even remember her. She lost her job in the managment slashing frenzy of the last couple of years. Anyway, I digress, I sometimes think about going back to agency but I worry about the stress part cause I am not as spry as I was 10 years ago.

Call me crazy Oramar but I'm not too worried about a glut in the market for my skills right now. Ha! ha!

Yeah, you do not have to worry about a tight job market for a long while, like fifty years.

Just got done working 3 to 11. It is so cool to be working again. I actually get a thrill out of the time clock, it is one of those new ones that counts the hours as it goes along, you have to punch in and out for lunch. Turns out this place(LTC)is a haven for burnt out nurses. The first nurse I oriented with was a 30 year hospital veteran, the second nurse was a 18 year hospital veteran. All saying same thing, had to get out, couldn't take it anymore. They love it here and so far I kinda like it also. Find myself falling back a lot on my hospital experience but I am still learning new things. WHY OH WHY did I stay where I was so long and let my self get so physically and mentally sick, well better late than never.
