Fiona, it was meant as a hypothetical example. I only mentioned soda because you initally mentioned it...
Since you keep banging on about being a "new nurse", (You are not, you are a student), I was providing you with an opportunity to improve your basic practice by demonstrating how not to pass up a teaching opportunity.

I think you need to buy your preceptor a large bottle of whatever her tipple of choice is, she's earnt it.

  2. What exactly does your preceptor do that so offends your customer service sensibilities as to compare her to a rabid rhinocerous? If her people skills are so bad that she is on the verge of being fired despite being an excellent nurse what help did you offer her? She took time to make you a better nurse, what did she take away from you with your many years of management experience that improved her people skills?

Listen PSU, change is coming. It is going to be adapt or die.....
    Yikes! Sounds a bit harsh....

Anyway, it is not an either/or issue. You can provide great care, but good customer service can be a part of it. All I am trying to say is that in the end, doing what is best for the pt's well being is going to take precedence over customer service scores. Period.
  5. And fakebee it is not my sensibilites that matters.....fact is, I like my preceptor and I know that beneath her rough around the edgedness, she is a kind and caring person......

And I have not done a single thing to help her, she knows it all....

I have taken a very temporary, very very submissive position just so that I can survive my remaining few shifts with her......

  6. Again, tell us what your preceptor failed to do in the customer service realm...inquiring minds want to know...how else can we improve our pitiful people skills and receive your approval?

Fiona, I read in your post that you said "soft drink"....

Here in the states that equates to "soda"
This is kinda a stupid point to argue, but it does NOT always equate to soda here in the states (heck, many people don't use the word 'soda'). :spin:

I think you are missing my point entirely.......

    But if you must know,

She is brash, rude, obnoxious, yells and screams at peers and patients alike....is a bully, and gets her way by using intimidation.......just to name a few.......not to mention that she seems to be a pathological liar......
  9. Someone who likes and respects their preceptor does not come on a national forum, compare her to a rabid rhinoceros, says all her coworkers and patients hate her and proclaim that she will soon be fired.

  10. maybe we can talk again when you are managing your own patient assignment by yourself and you are hard pressed to find that "few extra moments" for someone who has customer service requests (as opposed to actual medical concerns you have to address...)

also let us know when you meet the unsatisfiable, nearly delusional patient that twists every word you ever say to them, hurls piles of insults at you and leaves you explaining a massive mess full of half truths and full out lies to your manager.
