  1. 0 2 minute survey - do you have an opinion about prior cna experience?

    hello!

i am a pre-nursing student taking prerequisites to get into nursing school. i am working on my statistics project, and decided to do something relevant to my field of interest.

i have created a short, 2 minute survey which in accordance with the rules, i've posted in the student forum under the academic research requests topic here at allnurses.com. if you have an opinion about having cna experience prior to becoming a nurse, please go to:

thank you to all you lovely people who help needy students such as myself!

    sincerely,

Can someone respond to your survey if they're still in nursing school?

Yes! I think that as a nursing student, you are gaining perspective on what it is to be a nurse and how being a CNA prior would either help or not help.

So, yes! Please respond if you feel led to!
    Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for taking your valuable time to answer my questions!

    1. What is your age? 40
    2. How long have you been a nurse? 3 months
    3. Did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? No
    4. If yes to #3, how long did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? N/A
    5. If no to #3, do you wish that you had? No
    6. Regardless of whether you worked as a CNA prior to becoming a nurse, do you believe working as a CNA prior to nursing better prepares you to be a nurse?
Not really. A good clinical experience can do the same as far as preparation goes. One might be more well versed in the personal care duties and the hospital setting, but as I previously stated...a good clinical experience can do the same thing.

Feel free to elaborate on your response.

    1. What is your age? 28
    2. How long have you been a nurse? 7 months
    3. Did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? No
    4. If yes to #3, how long did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? N/A
    5. If no to #3, do you wish that you had? Yes
    6. Regardless of whether you worked as a CNA prior to becoming a nurse, do you believe working as a CNA prior to nursing better prepares you to be a nurse?
Sort of - I think working as a CNA before attending nursing school would have made me more comfortable in the clinical environment and more comfortable with patient interaction. This would have been a real advantage, especially in the beginning of nursing school. Plus, it would have been a lot easier to get a job if I had worked there previously as a CNA!

Feel free to elaborate on your response.

    1. What is your age? 24
    2. How long have you been a nurse? 8 months
    3. Did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? No
    4. If yes to #3, how long did you work as a CNA before becoming a nurse? N/A

    6. Regardless of whether you worked as a CNA prior to becoming a nurse, do you believe working as a CNA prior to nursing better prepares you to be a nurse?
Not really..a CNA's day is predominantly spent completing tasks. The role of the RN is (supposedly) more process oriented..it requires constant critical thought processes such as validating orders, implementation, question unsafe orders, treatment planning, pt advocacy, teaching, etc.
