I am currently taking a business course on Entrepeneurship. We are learning how to set up, strategize, market, and succeed with a small business. The class is nationwide and sanctioned by the local better business bureau.

I am researching and applying the skills I acquire to setting up a small business, initially, in CPR and Health Related education. The class is called "The Nx Level".

I am also taking a seminar class in November regarding EKG interpretation and application of understanding. It is set up through a private sector business. The class usually costs $ 125.00; I am going to assist with the running of the class that day so will get a substantial discount. I will pay $ 60.00 and obtain a free set on tapes. Future classes, by this same private sector, are eligible to be free when I particpate in the days operation of running the class. I have never done the later so I will let you know how if goes (if you are interested).

Is anyone doing anything of interest you care to share. Or is anyone thinking about an area of advanced education we can discuss?

Congrats to you! I found for myself, after I had taken a 3 year break from school, I need to be a life-long learner. I had forgotten how to spell (I admit- still needs work), I felt that my brain was atrophying and I felt lost and ineffective. I began attending weekly Geriatric Nursing Interest Series semenars and got a lot of confidence in myself back. My practice has improved so much in the last year (although I also have this BB to thank).

I recently attended a seminar focusing on pre-hospital emergency care. I work at a boarding school and sometimes my kids get injured. I don't have the ammenities of a hospital out on the soccer field or at the horse stables. It was a good course, and I learned a lot of practical information to keep an injured person stable until paramedics arrive as well as communicate with the dispatcher effectively so that the EMT's know what they're responding to. I work and live in a somewhat rural community outside of the city limits.

I've been working on my MSN for the past 2 years. It's a 3 year program to become an Advance Practice Nurse with a specialty focus in Community Health. I'm in my last semester of courses, will take my comprehensive exam in Feb. and Graduate in May (hopefully). It's been a long and exhausting process. I can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

I know what you mean aout lifelong learning; it is a process or a journey not a destination. Good for you to seek it out. I am glad you are enjoying it.

Great information for you to know. It sounds very interesting too. It sounds like I could have used that for camp nursing.

Thank you both for sharing. Did you both get CEU's? I never worry about that becuae I have so many anyway.

Oddly enough CEUs are not required here in Canada. I do it for myself.

The seminar offered CEU's and my employer paid for it.

I do not mind the CEU's demands. I ahve alway been over anyway. I think the EKG seminar is 7.6 CEU's.

I've started classes to become a Certified Hypnotherapist (I've done so much traditional school I needed something different). If nothing else, maybe I can implant some suggestions in my kids to clean their rooms...

Hynotherapist.. cool... I once tried that for stopping a bad habit. It kinda did not work for me but it was more my mind set then the hypnotist who failed.

That sounds so cool researchrabbit. I know what you mean about needing to take a break from traditional teachings of nursing. I really want to explore alternative medicines when I can free up more time and afford the classes; the ones I have looked at are expensive.

That's wonderful, Researchrabbit! I have a friend who took some courses in self-hypnosis. She had cancer and the chemo treatment took 6 hours per session. She would put herself into a self-hypnotic state, so the 6 hours felt like 30 minutes to her.
