gc,

Thank you so much for your reply. I am going to the HR office tommorrow to see what is going on. They also agreed to pay college tuition reimbursement. I turned in all necessary paperwork to get this, as well. I have not seen one dollar and right now this facility owes me between 4-5k counting pto. If they do not pay soon and I will be on food stamps. Ridiculous, I know.

I am angry but if I sued them and won my job back, I would never return to this facility. The reason they let me go is wrong, letting me go while I was on vacation is wrong, holding pto is wrong and not paying college tuition when I earned a 3.5 this semester is abhorrent!

This was my first nursing job. I was there 3 years. I was very hurt at first. Now I am mad as (put in ___). BTW, most of my nursing friends have told me they do not have to pay pto if they let you go. Honestly, if I do not see this $$ in the next few weeks I will be seeking a lawyer. Preferably one not in this small hick town.

I don't love my job, but I genuinely love my co-workers. They are just about the only thing I look forward to about going to work.

Specializes in substance abuse.

I looooove my job! I am out-patient substance abuse. It has been a fun and challenging 6 years, but super awesome!

I am CNA in a busy rehab hospital. We have lots of hips, strokes, cardiac rehab, brain injury, some SC injury, some just in need of reconditioning after serious illness and weeks in the hospital (wound vacs and PEG tubes). My job is pretty low key, but fast paced, except when someone goes south on us, but I Love it. I must say, I work with the absolute best nurses on the planet. They are so quick thinking, dedicated and caring. The PT and OT staff are exceptional, too. Most of my fellow CNAs are dedicated to this type of unit and would not want to work anyplace else. Since we have pts. stay from 3-8 wks. we get to know most of them pretty well, and it is wonderful to see the progression to home. I love my job, the people I work with, and the atmosphere. Really, I could not ask for better.

I'm doing exactly what I wanted plus working with a population I am pleasantly surprised to find that I love. My preceptors were great and my coworkers are fun and supportive. And I think that, even though I'm a new grad, I'm actually good at certain things. Benefits are embarrassingly bad, there are schedule and staffing frustrations, but it is the first time in my life I've ever felt fulfilled and happy at work.

Plus I have the new head haze of happiness to be working at all ;)

Sorry you are going through this but are you by any chance at an HCA facility or CHS.... thanks

I do so love my job. I've had DON, unit manager, MDS Coordinator and ADON jobs in the past. My wonderful administrator allowed me to "step down" from salaried MDS job and be a floor nurse. All that hard work doing things that i really wasn't crazy has paid off and i look forward to going in every day. I'm an RN and my facility almost never has them on the floor. We have 90 beds LTC and skilled rehab. My unit has 30 beds and is about 75% skilled, people coming in for therapy and going home within 90 days. The other 25% are long term, some been there for several years. I work day shift and it is always busy. Makes the days shorter, work is never all done when i leave, but i always come back the next scheduled day and pick it up again. My unit manager is so impressed with her clipboard and meetings that she leaves me alone on clinical issues. i work with patients on education about chronic problems. I inservice my cnas on new patient conditions, i help them with their work. Corporate recently did a wage survey thing and gave me a $5.00/hour raise. I have a blast, feel appreciated by patients and families and most of the people that i work with. Hardest thing for me is to not get all involved trying to tell my supervisors and people up the food chain how to do their job. Second hardest thing is to follow charting or protocol requirements that i find silly. I recently realized that i get paid to use my judgement and provide care, but also to fill in the required boxes and info so that when state comes, it's evident that we are doing what we are supposed to, and when medicare reviews for payment it's evident that we deserve what we're billing for. Long winded I know, but i'm finding that age has its' advantages. I've learned to play nice, avoid the drama, work really hard and stay below the radar. I love my job because i get paid really well for doing what i love to do. Long term care nurses may not be the most highly regarded in nursing but i feel really fortunate that i've come to the point that the fact that i know i'm flat out working as hard as i can is rewarding. i make a difference in at least part of my patients lives every day and i get paid for it. I love my job.

Specializes in insanity control.

I love my job. I work as a travel nurse on OB. I get to help women (families) in a time of stress for great joy or sometimes utter heartbreak. I get to help put families together, one child at a time. I love the newborns and the help for the mom's. I even like helping when things don't go as planned. I can help a family with a natal loss see that it won't always be this bad, and because have been through it, they get the best berievement care I know how to give. I console the woman who has decided to give her child a better life through adoption. and even help those who decide that motherhood is not for them right now. I love being able to guide and assist a frightened teen through the labor process and help her bond with the life she created and carried. I have my issues but who doesn't.

If necessary, definitely get the advice of a LABOR attorney. A reputable one should give you an initial consultation for free. However, there may not be enough money in it for an attorney to take on. If that's the case, it seems to be pretty straight forward so I would definitely go to small claims.

I love my job in pediatric urgent care!

Challenges everyday, making a difference (even if it's a tiny one!),nailing a blood draw on a neonate, counseling upset parents, learning, learning, learning!!!

Specializes in ICU/Critical Care.

I do :) I loveee my co-workers, the unwavering teamwork & the fact that we genuinely have one another's back no matter what. I love the acuity of my floor & having to be constantly on my toes, as stressful as that may get. I love being challenged each shift. I love the idea that I'll never stop learning. I love my patients & truly care about all of them... although is doesnt hurt when they show some appreciation :) There will always be things that can be improved but for the most part, I really love my job & hope this doesnt change!

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.
I loved my job but they let me go 2 weeks ago. I will never fall in love with a job or coworkers again. I also will never trust the hosptital environment again either. I went in on Friday to see if I could get my pto. They had new nurses lined up for orientation. They let me go at the drop of a hat. I am still trying to get my pto time that they owe me. I am scared I will never see it. Moral of story: use pto up as fast as you can accumulate it. I will follow up if I get my pto. Its about 200 hours. :(

I'm sorry. It amazes me how non union hospitals can do this.
