  1. Hello,

Can someone give me an idea on the salary range for a new RN in NY?

It depends if you're looking in NYC or upstate area. I currently am an LPN at a Southern Tier, NY hospital. When I finish my RN in May, my hourly rate will go up to a whopping $16.70 per hour plus $2 shift differential. If you don't already live in NY, consider this when making the move... Taxes are unreal. I have several friends in NYC who are RNs with 3 or 4 years experience and they're making $28-32 an hour. Sounds like great money until you realize their average rent for a studio apt in a decent neighborhood is $1200. I hear RNs in Albany, Rochester and Syracuse may a decent money but it's in the eye of the beholder. The people have been very nice to me here, but I'm a southern girl and can't take living at the north pole anymore. Heading to Florida in June!!

Trying to talk dh into moving to Florida. Our winters are awful. Have to decide if I want to continue education down there or finish here first.

Kellymarie...if your on your way already to being an RN. you may want to finish up there. The schools i hear have waiting lists. But as an LPN there is more work than you can handle, and plenty of places that will give you a nice sign on bonus and tution rembursment. Its nice to be where the sun shines almost every day and you dont have to deal with bad weather just to get to work!

That sounds good. I really want to move away from here. (Massachusetts) Winters are horrid. I am thinking of doing my RN long distance now. So, we'll see.
