NY Med (TV Show)

Nurses General Nursing

Has anyone watched NY Med? What did you think?

I am between classes right now and I was thinking of starting a new series on Hulu and ran across this show. My break is short so I don't want to commit to something that ends up being a bomb. :dead:

I have been burned by "reality" shows before so any feedback good or otherwise is welcome. Thanks!

I really like the show. It don't really think it's a reality show. I would call it a documentary. It gives a great insight into a really amazing hospital.

Good to hear! I am definitely down with documentaries. :)

Specializes in NICU.

There is also Boston Med, same thing- different hospital.

Thanks! I'll add it to my queue.

I like the show, however, I think some of it is a bit overdramatized..

I like it and always watch however am bothered by the lack of professional dress code by some of the ED nurses. Long hair, long, painted nails, non scrub attire. Maybe it's just me but I think it reflects poorly not to mention infection prevention and hygiene goes out the window.

Specializes in NICU.

I recently started watching the show and I love it! I have a couple friends that work at that hospital. They do amazing things there and I'm always drawn in to the stories I see.

I've watched both boston and my med. I love it cuz I've lived both places. My cousin works at boston children and I was always hoping to catch a glimpse of her but it was before she worked there (not to mention it's a big hospital )

I ran across Detroit ER yesterday and liked it better. I enjoy NY Med but I agree that the nurses they highlight are definitely spruced up for TV. Though, they are knowledgeable and seem to be good nurses.

Specializes in Emergency, Telemetry, Transplant.

From the perspective of a nurse who works in a hospital--I have no desire to go home a "relive" the day. It might be good entertainment, it might give people an almost real-life look at the hospital and its staff. However, I already have that in my real life, so I tend to stay away from it. Before becoming a nurse I liked House and ER. I can't stand to watch a rerun of House anymore. The reasoning is slightly different--there are blatant errors and is as un-real life as you can get.

Edit: Sorry to be a Debbie Downer about it. It seems the show has many fans, and if I didn't work in a hospital I might be a fan too. Its just not for me.

I like both shows but I agree with the poster who mentioned the female staff who wear their hair down and all beautiful. When they are at bedside, it seems like the hair is up but when they are interviewed about what's going on, the hair is down. Even the female docs do it.

You just don't wear your long hair down while working in the ER.
