Hello. I hope this is not an inappropriate question, but what is the average pay for a new grad RN in your state? I live in La. and I am sure, like so many other catagories, we are on the bottom of the list..... Thanks alot!

Specializes in Telemetry.
new grad, rn in staten island new york (it is 1 of the 5 borrows that make up new york city) i started at 33.80/hr...after a year i went up to 34.82/hr....the other states pay way less and in my opinion, i still don't get paid enough for the stress, both physically and mentally...nursing school could not prepare you for what you will have to deal with....

jgragu1,

do you work at siuh? if so, do u like it there? what floor do you work on?

thanks.

happybsn, rn

Specializes in Hospice.

I'm in GA, and most hospitals start off @ 22/hr. Fortunately, I started in hospice @ 27/hr

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

You can not do it just by state, it varies by regon. For example, I am on the California North Coast and just got a new grad hire at 29.40/hr including NOC diff. My classmate just got hired in S.F. for 58 and some odd cents/hr.

Specializes in LTC.

For me Little Rock, AR $24 hour- LTC

Specializes in Peds Hem, Onc, Med/Surg.

Northeast Florida 19.25 an hour for new grads. We suck. I know.

Specializes in Home Health.

I've seen it as low as $17.25 and as high as $24.00 in Alabama.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I'm in the very rural southern part of california (about an hour and a half east of LA).

31.78/hr to start this april as a new grad. Plus night shift differential puts it at about 36/hr. BTW, where I live cost of living is reasonable, especially now. I paid 260k for my house as the height of the market. And obviously with the economy, we have brand new nice homes selling for 150. Considering salary, cost of living is fair.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I live in DFW, Texas and attend school in Oklahoma City.

New grad RNs in the Dallas area earn $22 to $25 per hour in most area hospitals. New grads in Oklahoma City earn an average of $18.50 in most area hospitals.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Transplant, Education.

I'm a new grad in Boston, MA. I have seen/heard of anywhere from $25-$30/hr for new grad RNs, depending on the type of facility.

Specializes in Pedi,Tele,ICU,ER,Ortho,MedSurg;prison.

I started out in La for about 18 an hour, now in texas where starting pay isnt much higher. Remember that you have to factor in cost of living wherever you are, benefits, and job satisfaction as well. I would rather earn less money at I place I love than higher pay for a miserable job. I have made the mistake of having several offers to choose from, and taking the higher pay over the friendly atmosphere. I quit rather quickly and went with the facility I liked more and have been happy since then. Money isnt everything! It's much easier to work OT for the extra money when you love where you are and can be proud of the care you've given. Choose wisely, and good luck!

Orlando, FL $21/hr for ADN. A bit more for BSN.

Specializes in med surg.

Southern VA starting pay for new grad with no experience is around $20.50-$21/hr. Shift diff I think is $2.00/hr for 3-11 and $3.00/hr for 11-7, another $3.00 for wkend and holidays (may be $4.00). No sign on bonuses here but some hospitals around Richmond I think are still giving bonuses (most pay a little more too last I heard).
