pay to volunteer? I don't think so. I found my position online on some volunteer website. I think they were so happy to get me. I volunteer 1 day/week so that I can still job search and volunteer elsewhere. On Friday, I "bumped" into a Nurse Manager on the elevator...I talk to everyone with an id on the elevator and in hallways when on my break/lunch...He said, I love the fact that you are volunteering and I want to reward that. I will call you as soon as I have an opening! FREE! plus lunch/parking included!

Lucky. No one in this town volunteers at major hospitals for free or without an interview. Too many people and too many weirdos I guess!!

I would love to volunteer. I am ok with volunteering outside of the hospital setting, but I have been look at mostly hospitals because I feel that it where I will have the best learning experience. No hospitals in my area want volunteers, not at least for anything that I can provide patient care for, or even learn from the nurses who are providing care. Do you mind sharing the volunteer website with us?

I can't recall but I did a google type search or craigslist or something. I'm in the Bay Area. Where do they charge to volunteer? I should be clear...I am NOT doing patient care as such, but I file records which I am free to scan and learn from, sit in on assessments with doc or rn, and I take every opportunity to talk to anyone with an ID on when I run errands. If it gets me a job after 6 mths of searching, it'll be worth it. I've been doing it for 2 months now and have 2 good leads....it's just hospital budgeting at this point! Good luck and God bless US ALL!
