Nursing practice committee

  1. HI all, would like to know if any of you are on this type of committee? We are forming a new committee after our last union vote. This committee will be comprised of 5 hospital staff RN and 4 managers. One of the purposes will be to look at staffing and possibly hire staffing where desparately needed. This is empowered with only %500,000 but it a starting place. Need ideas of how to organzie and run this committee, anyone with this type of experience or have you seen this on any internet sites?

OURS RUNS ONCE A MONTH FOR 2 HOURS. THE BEST WAY TO START OUT IS TO SET OBJECTIVES FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH. PRIORITIZE WHAT THE "HOT TOPICS" ARE IN YOUR FACILITY AND BEGIN BY DISCUSSING HOW EVERYONE INVOLVED CAN IMPROVE THESE. DO NOT USE THIS AS AN ADVESARIAL COMMITTEE. BE WILLING TO LOOK AT DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND DO SOME TRUST BUILDING. IT WILL TAKE YOU ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS TO GET REALLY ROLLING WITH THE COMMITTEE. BE STRATEGIC AND MAKE SURE ASSIGNMENTS ARE GIVEN TO APPROPRIATE PEOPLE WITH TIME LIMITS TO FINISH SO PROGRESS IS SEEN EACH MEETING. YOU WILL BEGIN TO SEE THAT SUCCESS HAPPENS AND THAT PATIENT CARE AND EMPLOYEE MORALE IMPROVE. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE STAFF ON THIS COMMITTEE BE PEER LEADERS WHO ARE NOT JUST PRO-UNION, BUT WHO ARE WILLING TO BE FLEXIBLE AND CAN COMMUNICATE WELL.
