I just ordered Nursing2001. Does anyone like this series? I also looked at RN, and AJN. I thought RN was kinda superficial, and AJN was not very fun to read. I like a mix of research and humor.
Any other good publications out there? Keep in mind I am a student, and therefore, I am on a tight budget
My class right now is spending time reading Nurse Manager (its a staff managment class), but it didnt appear to be research based at all.

I get AJN, Nursing 2001, RN, the American Journal of Critical Care, Focus on Critical Care, Nursing Minnesota, and a couple of free nursing magazines (Nursing Spectrum and Nurse Week). AJN and Critical Care Nursing are free with membership to organizations- ANA and AACN, respectively. I pay for the other magazines because I learn something from each of them every month. Each year I keep thinking that I don't need all 3 of the main ones (AJN, Nursing 2001 and RN), but I find that there is too much in them NOT to get them. RN has the cheapest CEU's around (you can actually get 32 CEU's for less than $100 from them- for those of you who need CEUs for re-licensure or re-certification). And after 32 years of nursing, I don't find it superficial; I've been in critical care for so long it's nice to see that all areas of nursing have new ways of doing things and better explanations than when I was in school (a friend and I used to joke that we went to nursing school
before calcium channels evolved!).
I've subscribed to other nursing journals through the years, but for one reason or another, have let those subscriptions lapse (maybe too boring, too radical, too dry, too much research-- but whatever it was, I wasn't reading them).
Your best bet is to find something you enjoy reading and then make sure you read it every month. As students, you probably can't afford more than one magazine, so find one you do like and read it; the others you can probably find either parts or all of the issue on the internet.
BTW, I have my journals stacked in the bathroom on a small table near the toilet... It REALLY is my reading room; you'd be surprised how much you can learn reading a paragraph every time you go when you are at home!
