Nursing & Privacy

  1. I'm not even sure my title accurately describes my question. I am starting an LVN program very soon. I have been having problems with anxiety for a while now and have a dr's appointment scheduled.
If I were to be prescribed some kind of medication like zoloft or xanax, is that something I would be required to reveal when applying for nursing positions in my future? Would that be held against me at all?

Thanks in advance for any advice and info.

No and No. You would not have to reveal it unless a drug screen is done, and as long as you have listed it if it shows up and you have a script for it, you're fine. It will not be held against you, many nurses need meds for different reasons. I know a nurse who has a panic disorder so bad she could not make the trip to another city to take her boards without medication on board, and she's doing very well in a nursing job.

EVERYONE is on something for anxiety or depression in nursing school. Don't worry. Most of your instructors are probably on something too.

Thanks so much for the info! This already makes me feel better. I think starting the program is THE main reason my anxiety has flared up recently. :spin:
