It's called a SnipnGrip. I picked up two of them today. The rep only sent 3 and the lady held 2 for me. They are from a midwestern uniform site, but I don't see them listed if I do a search. You can see the short nosed hemostat, the cut out to grip things, and the scissor blades behind. :heartbeat

I found something that looks similar on Amazon.

ROFL! If this quirky uniform store I go to ever carries it, I will be sure to let you know. ;-)

THANKS!!!

There are also these: Gripsors, The Newest Innovation In Bandage Scissors which seem really cool. I ordered a pair, but haven't received them yet. Hopefully they will help because I always have problems undoing IV tubing that someone has connected too tightly! Hope this helps!:nurse:

These don't have the cut out, just the clamp and scissors. I think its the cut out area that makes it different. Another's poster mentioned finding them at a tackle store. They had the Amazon type but not one that has the cut out.

I saw those and was going to get a pair. The tight tubing issue is why I like the curved cut out. It grips nicely right around those luer locks. Some people really put those on tight.

This tool was designed by a nurse. My guess she had the same issue! !

Doesn't this increase risk of nosocomial infection? I have been instructed not to carry any tool to be used from patient to patient to patient.

I personally prefer a Gerber Multi-tool, which can come in handy not just for IV luerlocks that's on too tight, but in addition, good for fixing a variety of screws and bolts that are on too tight or too loose (from IV pumps, loose bed rails, and even the unit clerk's jammed stapler). The thing also has a knife, saw, slot and phillips screwdrivers, wire cutter and crimpers, along with both a curved and flat plier surface.

I've carried one for years.

My husband carried one of those for years very handy.

Imo, tools are extensions of my hands. I wouldn't ever leave a room without washing my tools and wiping them down with alcohol. I bet the pens we carry and the keyboard we type on are dirtier than my tools. It's one thing I'm anal about.

There are many tools we use from patient to patient; stethescope, bp cuff, commode, geri-chair; how is this any different?

I don't use my own personal tools to do really nasty dressing changes. For those, I use disposable sets. Everytime I use my scissors, I toss them in the sink, wash in hot water and then pull out an alcohol pad and scrub them down, and that's just for cutting off coban!

That looks like the same tool to me, including the cut out area, which I'm guessing is the "plier" portion. Since I could use a hemostat/scissor tool even without the fun plier portion I ordered a set and will let you know in a week or so if it is indeed the same tool!
