Nurses that work in CLINICS!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey all! I just wanted to see if there were any nurses here that worked in a CLINIC setting such as: Family Practice, Allergy, Internal Med, Eye Clinic, Plastic Surgery, Peds Clinic, etc, etc...

Do you like where you work?

What are your hours?

How is the pay?

What kind of clinic do you work in?

How many holidays do you have off?

Is it stressful?

If you worked at a hospital before, how does this compare?

Any other details you want to share?

I'm just asking because I may be moving, and I think I want to go back to a clinic type setting and get out of the hospital. Thanks!!!

Do you like where you work? Yes, most days I enjoy it

What are your hours? I do three shifts per week, 2 are 14 hours 1 is 10. The 14 hours is way too long.

How is the pay? eh, hourly matches what I made in the hosp but no diffs

What kind of clinic do you work in? Dialysis, had no prior dialysis experience

How many holidays do you have off? Clinic closed Thanks & Christmas, and we close every Sunday

Is it stressful? Can be, but nothing like the hospital

If you worked at a hospital before, how does this compare? I like it a million times better, you get to know your patients and their families.

Any other details you want to share? I am afraid I will lose all of my hospital skills and get stuck in dialysis. Although I can finally say I enjoy my job, I am afraid I will get bored.

Do you like where you work? For the most part yes, but nursing is nursing it has it's ups and downs

What are your hours? M-F 40 hrs/week, no holidays

How is the pay? Not better than the hospital setting

What kind of clinic do you work in? Community Health: Womens health

How many holidays do you have off? All of them, including float holidays (good friday, MLK day, Presidents day)

Is it stressful? When you are shortstaffed yes, because as the nurse you do all the work, not to mention the patient follow up

If you worked at a hospital before, how does this compare? Hours are not as long, and not as back breaking, but you do lose out on clinical skills, you don't get paid as much.

Specializes in Med/Surg/Tele/Onc.

Do you like where you work? Yes, very much.

What are your hours? 7:30 a - 6:00 P, 4 10-hour shifts a week

How is the pay? Less than hospital

What kind of clinic do you work in? Outpatient Chemotherapy Clinic in an Hem/Onc office

How many holidays do you have off? New Year, Mem Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. We do not get paid for holidays. Since we work 4 10-hour shifts a week, our "off day" for that week is the Holiday.

Is it stressful? It can be

If you worked at a hospital before, how does this compare? Way less stressful than the hospital.

Any other details you want to share? I love Oncology. You get to know the patients, your IV skills improve, the patients are not there when you get there and are not there when you leave. The group Iwork with is awesome too. What causes stress is (what else) we're often understaffed or overbooked. Patients get upset when they have to wait.

Specializes in OB/GYN, Peds, School Nurse, DD.

i worked in a Family Practice clinic several years ago, for about 9 months. Coming from a NICU background, I was really surprised at how busy the clinic was. We had 4 docs and saw over 300 patients per day. There was little or no down time. And i could n't belive how sick some of those patients were! I learned pretty quick that anything you could see in an ER you might see in the doctor's office. I had to really be on my toes

Do you like where you work? Yes

What are your hours? 7:30-4:00 or 8-4:30, worked overtime too

How is the pay? 18.00/hr

What kind of clinic do you work in? Urology

How many holidays do you have off? All major ones

Is it stressful? No, but busy

If you worked at a hospital before, how does this compare? Way better than a hospital

Any other details you want to share? Don't work there anymore. Have interviewed for other offices, etc. Pay range from $14/hr up to $23/hr (I'm an LPN). Hours are consistent. Depending on the doctor running the practice, pay and compensation may be really good or he (or she) may be a cheapskate who doesn't want to give it up. Overall, office nursing is a good deal.
