Shows that it's not just people without a job or low paying jobs that can be crazy and kill people.
Really?! Are you serious? What a weird comment.

There have been a lot of killers who had good paying jobs that were crazy and killed people. Ted Bundy, The BTK killer, John Wayne Gacy-well, they're a few that come to mind. There's even been rumors that Jack the Ripper was a member of the Royal family.

Why should nurses be exempt from this? I'm 50 and quite aware of a lot of the killers on this list. Why is it so shocking to read about them? You and the rest of the nurses in this big world are human just like the rest of us. Going to college and getting a degree and a career doesn't exempt someone from being "crazy" as you put it.

You don't have to be "crazy" to commit murder.

I looked him up after I saw this- he supposedly killed patients who were demanding or whiny...
Wow, with that criteria, I knew a LOT of people who'd be in danger with that guy!

Watching a show right now that is coincidentally featuring Diane Downs and two serial killer doctors. Weird?!

I know this is about nurses, but dear Heavens, Diane Downs...I can't even describe her level of depravity.

Interesting, I worked with a nurse at one time that tried to give a hospice patient extra fentanyl and wondered how many hospice patients she may have overdosed. I know she thought she was doing them a favor, but it's not our job to take their lives, only to help the transition more comfortable. The last I knew, this nurse's license had been revoked.

I think it's unfair to include Andrea Yates in this list, as the murders she committed had nothing to do with being a nurse, so she wasn't taking advantage of her nursing profession to murder someone.

I agree. And not to mention she was very very very mentally ill.
    Great thread though. Morbidly interesting

I think this is an interesting thread. My husband has always been interested in serial killers and what could make people do the things they do. I have sense gained an interest as well. I think it is a good topic to discuss. People need to be aware. Not everyone has the best intentions.

Wow! Never thought about this topic before. I guess it shouldn't be a big surprise as someone mentioned earlier. I wonder what careers serial killers are attracted to and how that plays into the nursing profession, i.e. ability to play God? Maybe there should be a part 2 to this article.

I would imagine most serial killers would have such emotional problems as to make finishing nursing school difficult, if not impossible.

Two nurses' aides who killed at least 5 people in the 1980s. I worked at that facility for about a year and a half--25 years and several management/affiliation/name changes after the murders.
