Why is it that there is such a chronic shortage of nurses in every conceivable country? What has happened to our profession that it is in such a state and nothing seems to be able to rectify this. Everybody has such a glorified view of how wonderful nurses are, until they are admitted to hospital, when that view soon goes out of the window and we get treated like we do. As for the wages side of things, it would not make the job any easier if we were paid more but it would help relieve some of the bitterness I think a lot of us feel at being paid significantly less than say physio and occupational therapists and equivalent professionals such as teachers.
