NTI - CPR Throwdown
CPR is the first step in saving a life. When time matters, so does your skill and ability to remain calm. Here is what we learned at NTI.
AllNurses staff recently attended NTI 2017 in Houston, Texas. So many interesting exhibits and classes. We all know that CPR is the basis for a successful resuscitation. In fact, it is the first step in the chain of survival. The 2015 CPR Guidelines have recently been published and continue to emphasize the importance of effective CPR.
According to the American Heart Association: "Sudden cardiac arrest remains a leading cause of death in the United States. Seventy percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs) occur in the home, and approximately 50% are unwitnessed. Outcome from OHCA remains poor: only 10.8% of adult patients with nontraumatic cardiac arrest who have received resuscitative efforts from emergency medical services (EMS) survive to hospital discharge. In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) has a better outcome, with 22.3% to 25.5% of adults surviving to discharge."
At NTI, the CPR Throwdown is legendary. Teams of three individuals attempt resuscitation in a mock scenario. Prizes are awarded at the conclusion. Watch this....
