NSO Insurance

I've finally decided to purchase NSO insurance. I felt secure in seeing that it would cover up to $1 million for professional liability for each claim. However, when I logged into the website to view my policy, it didn't mention anything about the $1million per incident, $6 million aggregate for malpractice. It mentioned everything else, like the $10k for a lawyer each claim, defendent expense benefits, blah blah. It did not mention anything at all about what I actually purchased it for, which is the professional liability. I e-mailed them with no response, which I am not happy about. I know I can call them when I get around to it. I know this is the most popular company to get insurance but has anyone actually had experience with this company? Has anyone been sued or know someone who has and had to use this?

They have way of not being around if you have questions - in my experience. Also, once I got someone on the phone to ask about different policies, the person was easily confused, didn't understand insurance at all, and was easily frustrated. I am a bit wary of them. I had wondered about all the refs on this site for them, eg "buy NSO", Nobody seems to know if they actually are there when you need to file. I envision some fat cat, and his little secretaries signing up here on AN as nurses and talking up on how good NSO is and laughing all the way to the bank.

They take FOREVER to respond to emails (1-2 weeks). Their coverage is pretty good and affordable though. Thankfully, I can't tell you how it is if you have a claim

Specializes in I like everything except ER.

One time I had to give a deposition in a sexual harassment case that a nurse in my hospital filed against a doctor. She wanted my story of the night when he harassed her. I called NSO and they asked for my policy number . I could not find my policy. Of all the years I have been saving them now i couldn't find it. They told me if I didn't know my number they could not help me. I had been with them for 7 years and they were blowing me off. I also had a series of women who seemed totally incompetent on the phone. I went to the Harvard Law school site and asked the students questions. I did very well on my own. But what if it was a serious Mal practice case!

Specializes in ER, Trauma.

Bummer! I was ready to recomend them, but if that's what you get for your money, I'd look elsewhere. I know their plans vary by state. Used them for over 20 years. Glad I didn't need them!

Eh, we have to purchase this insurance for Nursing school.
