Nsg agency questions.

Why do nursing agencies post how they need help and then u apply and they seem to just give you the run around? Is there anyone who can count on this for a job? It seems they lose your file etc, dont return phone calls whenn they say they wil etc..

You need to go to other agencies until you find one or two that won't lose your file.

I am going through the same thing. It's not just one agency. To me it has been almost every one that I have applied for. They advertise for nurses for adults then you call them and all they say that they only have is Peds. If I say that I will do Peds, they will always have an out. I'm a male and they will says that they only have little girls as patients and "The parents don't want a male taking care of their daughter. You know you can't trust a male nurse around little girls" or "you can't trust a male nurse around little boys; being most male nurses are gay." I've put up with this crap for almost 40 years. I think that it has something to do with affirmative action. When the Feds check their books, they agency can be PC and point to your name and say see we have so many nurses of this sex or this race. Meanwhile you are waiting by that phone. I really don’t know why, I am ready to leave Nursing I’m getting too old for this crap.

I quit my staff job and have been working for an agency now for about 3 months. It has been the best thing I ever did. I make my own schedule and they always have work for me. I have been cancelled once and that was because it was Labor Day. I make alot more money and avoid all the "politics" that alot of staff nurses deal with. And I can work all the overtime I want. My suggestion would be to see how many hospitals the agency staffs and go from there. When they have more shifts to fill they will be more "careful" with their nurses. Good Luck.

who is this wonderful agency that you work for? I can decorate my Christmas tree with all the ID badges that I have. I work Trach / Vent LPN. I have not set foot in a hospital for years. I used to get all the work that I wanted. But that was for the State of New Jersey but the money was cut. I hope all the work continues for you.

I have done agency since 1978, worked in Pa, MD, NJ, Ut, PRN and several contracts along the way. Since Jan 2008 I have done nothing but FT agency, PRN and a few short term contracts. Except for July 2009 and Sept 2009 I have been working 32-60 hour weeks. Of course I do multiple specialties and work for several agancies. I have hospitals calling to see if I am available to fill their needs. Perhaps it is the economy in your area Things are tight here but I manage to get by financially. Good Luck.
