Night Shift Help!!

I am still on orientation with my unit and switched to night shift after working days (I applied for nights, we need the $$). What tips can you give me to make sure I get enough sleep but also spend time with my family? I have a one year old and my husband is military. I swear I am either working or sleeping, and 1/2 the time too tired to even cook especially when I have back to back shifts.... Help!! :(

No, sorry, still judgemental. Just because you were able to be two responsible adults and plan your lives perfectly, doesn't mean that everyone has had your insight, or hasn't ever made errors in judgement. Judge not lest you be judged. We should all be so fortunate.

Exactly that is my point! Not everyone is a responsible adults! Thank you for pointing that out.

But that wasn't my point, you are still being judgemental on people who you don't know anything about.

OP, my hat is off to you. I didn't have the courage to do night shift when my kids were younger, I waited till this year when I can sleep in peace knowing they are ok during the day.

I have no advice regarding kids because I don't have any...but for meals, the crockpot has become my savior. I am always too tired to cook something during the days I work so I have started to make great use of the crockpot.

Crock pot meals are awesome ! U can even make lasagna in them... Make your meat sauce in a pan then layer in the crock pot (hard noodles meat suace cheeses ... Keep layering to top) on low for 6-8 hrs or high for 2hrs .. A friend gave me this recipe and I swear its the best lasagna I've ever had ! :)

I'd really like to know which branch of the military provide free housing! Armour and Air Force don't. Benefits for families aren't free. It's cheaper and a better package to pay for them out of my cheque.

Best advice? Get a childcare provider or you will become a zombie. Batch cook on your days off to avoid the "let's get take out" trap.

Back up childcare in addition to the regular provider. Because there is always going to be a failure in the future.

Many civilians seem to think that the military pays out the hooha and all there is to do is sit back and enjoy the $$... SO wrong! My husbands pay checks barely cover our car note let alone our other bills! Even with us both working we still struggle some weeks. It makes me SO angry when people seem to think we are rich and should be dishing out money to help pay THEIR bills or ask me why I'm working. It's ridiculous! Military doesn't pay a lot!!

And I'm not really sure how you do not know me but yet seem to think that I am "rushing" things? I have had my RN since 2009 and have struggling to find a job due to this economy. If anything it's aBout damn time I actually started my career! I'm proud of what I do and just need advice on how to survive the night shift, not a novel on how to live my lift, how "well" we should be just because we are military or how amazing we should be at saving money. Life may turn out perfect for others but real life is not rainbows and unicorns. Some people do struggle and even though we may have our heads above water today does not mean we may not be drowning tomorrow. **** happens.. Don't judge others
