new to IHS

Hello all, well heres the short version, I graduated on July 12th, started working at IHS on July 14th, took the NCLEX on Aug 7th, & passed. I live one mile from the clinic and I am married to a trabal member. I love working here. I am very happy doing what I do and I have thought about going back to get my RN, but if I can stay working here as a LPN, then I more & likely wont go back. If anyone has any great tips for me on illnesses and the such, they would be greatly appreciated.

No bother at all.

Many come to this forum to view nursing issues related to natives or to understand the culture better.

Being a new nurse yourself, the "whole" allnurses board will provide you countless tips on illness and information in nursing practice...this is not necessarily limited to native...but is relevant to all groups...for human is human.

Also, many come to this forum to read only.

Congrats on passing your NCLEX! And if the spirit moves you to pursue the RN, you have my complete blessing.

Hello Practicalone! Congrats on your LPN & new job. I worked at a large tribally-run ambulatory care clinic for 16+ yrs. I enjoyed it very much. You will find among 'the people', a high rate of diabetes & obesity, along with hypertension & heart disease. Culturally appropriate education is one of the keys you might focus on.

I would also encourage you to continue your education & get your RN. I am always thankful that I did.

No. I am of the Oneida & Menominee tribes, enrolled Oneida. Both of these reservations are located in Wisconsin.
