JUst wanted to say.... I finally got the guts to go back to work after a 15 month leave. Last job left me discouraged and disgruntled. Joined the forum and and gained my self confidence back. Thanks to all who gave encouragment. I realize now, that I wasn't the only RN feeling the way I did. New job seems to be a more organized place to work. Mind you, I haven't started yet. Unit was very quiet compared to the last tele floor I worked on. Seemed like a good sign. They have monitor techs. Never had that before. They offered a shift differential from 3-7 while working 12's. Hum...never had that before. Rn's on the floor were not running around like chicken's with their head's cut off. Another good sign. Will be trained on how to pulll sheath's on cath pts. Recovered these pts before, just didn't pull the sheath. Scary, but very intrigued by this new skill to be aquired. Manager seems very laid back and personable. Talked in great lengths on how well her staff worked on the unit and that she has great nurses and is lucky to have them. Good sign. THey have a critical care team that will come to your unit, if called, should one of your pt's start to go down hill. They help in the care of getting the pt stablized. This sounds really good. SHould it be my turn to be pulled, I would be pulled to one of the 3 tele units in the hospital. Med Surg is an option, if I don't want to go there, then I can choose to go home with out being written up. New concept to me. Nurse/pt ratio is 5/6 to 1. Not too bad compared to the 7/8 to 1 at my last job.

There's much more....I'm so excited for this new opportunity. I just had to tell someone. I just hope that I"m not back on here in 2 months complaining about this job. I'm afraid they always make it seem better than what it actually is.

Congrats! It sounds like a much better place to work.

Congrats! Keep smiling and learning.

Good for you! Congratulations on getting your feet wet again in nursing!

You can do it! It sounds like a wonderful unit. Hope that it does work for you. I won't give cliche advice here. Been on the funk myself for one year regarding nursing profession decisions! Have a very Happy Christmas!

Well, it's been almost 4 months since I posted this. Just a little update. I really, I mean, really like it here. The staff is great. Except for a few, well , you know. But, the good out weigh the bad in this situation. Everyone has a positive attitude. My aids are extremely hard workers and God Love 'Em, they just don't make enough for all that they do. They are so....knowlegable compared to the last place I worked. I had a wonderful preceptor. Even though I was old enough to be her mother, we got along great. Or, so I think. She was extremely patient and very considerate of the way I like to do things. Couldn't of asked for a better person to work with. I have had a few rough days though. But, that was mainly due to the pt's condition which we all know can not be helped. But, for the most part, I'm only assigned 4-5 pts. Lovin it!!!!!! Anyway, I think working at the arm pit that I did before, really made me appreciate what a well run unit is all about. I just hope it stays that way. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
