New Grad job troubles

Any new grads that just recently passed RN NCLEX having trouble finding a job now? Damn all that school and hard work and It came to a holt. Everyone I applied to in Va hampton roads area isn't hiring all because Im new grad. If I was experience i would have had it made. Will anyone give us new grads a chance.

I am so sorry you are having this problem. I do believe that you will find a position at some point. Do not ignore venues other than hospitals. Good luck.

Definitely having [well, had now] problems! I graduated in August, passed the boards in September and after applying to 91 jobs, and receiving just 3 interviews, finally got an acceptable offer. It's bleak right now, so we might need to reconsider venues we might otherwise have blown off (e.g., LTC).

Good luck!

Believe me, it isn't because someone doesn't want to give you a chance. Many facilities on hiring freeze, or those that are hiring want experience so that less orientation is needed.

Same here "sigh" I was looking forward to starting my career as a nurse, but I see that it is going to take awhile. I apply everywhere, not just hospitals. I pray that this economy will pick up again someday soon.

Stethescope Re: New Grad job troubles
I graduated in May, took (and passed) boards in July and thought I would start working right away.....Immediately seeing the word PASS on my results I started applying EVERYWHERE...I even went through the yellow pages to make sure I wasn't forgetting a place!! I got hired to do home health and while I enjoyed it, I didnt feel I was learning anything. The patients were all pretty stable so I wasn't doing a lot of nursing-ish kinds of things....Afraid I would forget EVERYTHING I kept applying and I *FINALLY* got hired at a hospital. You just can't give up! I know applications are ridiculous and can take anywhere from 1-2 hrs depending what kind of info they want....but think of it as, if you're not applying, someone else IS! Lots of places also only hire a few new grads like twice a year.....that's not a lot of positions! Keep at it....someone will call you

I am also a new grad and having trouble looking for a job. I passed the NCLEX September and I have been looking for a job everywhere and nobody seems to be hiring. It's really frustrating but I still look for job openings and I am at that point where I just want to give up. I hope that there will be jobs for us soon, I need to start paying off my loans soon.

Goodluck to all of us looking for a nursing job.

I feel you,I graduated in May,passed boards in August and thought the world was at my feet..boy I promptly learned how hard it is to find the first nursing gig being new and inexperienced and all...so to make the story short I applied to dozen literally 100s of available position only to land one peds interview, one nursing home interview and one of state hospital interview..didnt get the peds job nor the nursing home one, still pending the decision in regards the out of state hospital (nothing final yet..got 2 interviews and a 3d coming up),and today I got another call for an interview from the same hospital I interviewed for peds (however it is not peds!) Yay,hopefully I can have some luck finally as I would much more prefer to work within the state (better pay, better driving)..

Default No New Grad RN Jobs in Massachusetts
Fall/2009 - New grad RN's in Massachusetts can't even get a job at a nursing home anymore, they all want 1 year or more experience ( which of course you can't get ). Hospital jobs are completely off-limits and have hiring freezes until next spring or summer 2010?? Yes, you will hear about a few lucky students who were in the right place at the right time and got a job, but that is 1 in 1,ooo. So much for the nursing shortage?????
