New CNA job and its intimidating

Started a new CNA job and its very intimidating! Its at a nursing home. I loved the pateints and the employees were very welcoming and nice. But I didn't think it would be this hard. The girl that was helping Me was so good and so fast at what she was doing, and i keep thinking that what if I'm never gonna be able to be that good. My dream is to become a nurse, I will be devasted if I'm not cut out for nursing. Any advice or words of encouragement?

Congratulations on the new job! Being a skilled CNA takes time and experience. Keep in mind that your coworker has probably been a CNA for months, if not years. Ask your coworkers how long the learning curve is. For example, at my hospital job I got the hang of things after working there for 3 months. (This doesn't mean I'm not still learning new things all the time.) For other positions, it may be different. However, I know that you can be just as adept as your coworker with time and effort ;)

It take time to get to know the ropes of any job! Thankfully, in a nursing home you will really get to know the residents and their specific routines (this is what will determine your efficiency at caring for ++ people!). When I was working as a casual CNA in a nursing home it took me about five months before I was confident and efficient. Utilize your co-workers who have been working there for a long time as they will know the routine and don't be afraid to ask for help. Although working as a CNA in a nursing home was very physically exhausting, it was also VERY rewarding when you establish a relationship with the residents!

Good luck!
