neonatal thermoregulation -help

Hello All....

I have a teaching project to teach level III Nursing Students about neonatal thermoregulation in the first four hours of life. I am to include sources of heat, methods of metabolic maintenance and nursing measures to prevent heat loss.

Today is when i begin my research on this project, so i will be busy searching nursing journals and reading info. My project is due Nov 10th, but w/i this 15 min speech i am to be 'creative' and thats where i need your help.. What kind of props can i bring in , that i can put together at home, or buy over the weekend that is inexpensive?

For instance, this girl did her teaching project over meconium stained amniotic fluid. And her presentation was cool when she brought out 3 glass jars, with a different solution in each one, each jar representing a different type of fluid you may see for amniotic fluid..the first one was 'normal amniotic fluid' the second one was ' meconium tinged amniotic fluid' and the third was 'meconium saturated amniotic fluid' the visual was really cool.

So if you have ANY ideas i can do , or props i can do... or things i can buy....or info i can use for my 15 min speech, it would soooooooooooo be appreciated.

Thank you for reading!

In my opinion, one of the best ways to get a baby thermoregulated is to do skin-to-skin, if mom can't do it-maybe too loopy from painkillers-then dad or sis or grandma or anyone can do it. I'd bring in a baby doll and have a male in the class do skin-to-skin, anything to make people engage. I have seen it done and recommend it to almost everyone.

Not much longer teensmom-she'll be out of her teens in 2 months!
