Need some advice

Hello Nursing community,

I wanted to get a little advice on what I should do. My education is basicly paid, but thats if I maintain a competitive gpa, at least a 3.0. I have been working toward becoming a Nurse for sometime now. I have experienced a lot of up and downs in my life. I have been working in a hospital for almost 3 years. I don't really enjoy just being a CNA. I really want to do more in healthcare. I want to become a Nurse. I have been working towards my Bachelors degree for a while. I also have a program that is paying my way through school. I just have to maintain my grades. I work only one time a week, but I have six kids at home. I care for them myself, it has been a challenge to do this. I really have eight children, one of my oldest daugthers lives with me. I really don't have to worry about babysitting, because my daughter has help me out so much. All my kids want a better life and they know that I want my education so bad. Well here it goes, I work tomorrow and I have an A and P exam Monday The program told me that I must get a least an A or B in this class. Mentally I really have to study for this exam. I am taking it in the summer so we have about four weeks left in the class. I want to do well. Everyone know with Anatomy and Physiology you have to study constantly. I have to study to maintain my grades. I really want to just study tomorrow. I don't want to go in to work, because I know working a twelve hour shift I will not have the power to study. If I don't get good grades my program will no longer give me the support to get my BSN. What would you do???????

Wow, thats a good program that will pay for you to become a Nurse. If I were you, I would take off work and study. How often do you call in to work? You really need to stay focus because Nursing school can be very expensive. If you dont mind me asking, what did you have to do for them to pay for your schooling? You need to study and focus on your career because this is something that you really want for yourself and your children.

Call in to work, and start reading.

What body sections does your exam cover, and I'll see what I have here that might help.

Would your co workers be able to give you some time here and there to study if you do decide to go in to work?

Also, I don't know about your A&P book, but mine had all of the key points in tables on the sides of the page. So I would study those and if I really had a hard problem understanding a certain point I would read through that page. It cuts down on the amount you have to read at least.

hello there, i just saw this thread,

I also think you should not go to work if have an exam. I took a&p II last summer, I took off every day that i had exams, I took a night class and the exams were usally on mondays, so i studied the weekend and then all day monday. I planned all ahead of time and boss appreciated that I told them all the days that was going to be out. you need to really calculate the amount of time you need and allocate that amount of time out of your schedule, your boss and co-workers will all be supportive if you lay it out ahead of time, instead of calling them last minute. you really do need to both work and school and do it right as it sounds like. Trust me I had to do it. and the only way it was possible was planning for it.

hope this helps and lost of luck.

Study. I would try and see if you can get a schedule from your professor in regards to exams. If you know when they are you can schedule work around it and I think that will help work, grades, and your stress level.
