I live in Southern New Hampshire. I have an elderly grandmother at home who needs a caregiver to come in during the days to help a little with ADL's and meals. I'm not inquiring for one here. I just want to know if anyone knows some websites that would help me find one locally? We're not really looking for an agency, more like just one privately. I'm having trouble searching and haven't come up with much.

Thank you :nuke::heartbeat

Try posting on your local Craigslist. You could also inquire at your local nursing schools.

Sunny beat me to the punch. The local nursing school would be a great place. A student who is/was already a CNA and needs extra cash but cant work full time would be the target. I knew two students who performed 1:1 care during school.

Check your local newspaper and also the local senior center gave me a list of names and phone numbers that local people give out that are willing to sit with the elderly or help with ADLs. I found a lady on that list that could help my grandma on the days that I was unable to help. Grandma's long term care insurance would only pay for $80 per day which is 4 hours with the agency. Therefore, we had to find someone that didn't charge the steep fees that the agency charges. But the bad part is, when you do this, you don't have nearly as good background checks, and also if they call in sick, then you are stuck. Plus holidays and weekends are harder to cover if you don't go through an agency. Somehow we got through the few weeks thankfully. Grandma didn't like the nurse that we hired privately. She was lazy. But the agency nurse was absolutely fantastic. THank God for long term care insurance!!!

Now, I am able to go every Friday I spend 8 - 10 hours taking her to do errands and get her hair done, do her laundry and stuff. SHe's 90 years old and this works for now, she can no longer drive a car. Grandma refuses to be a burden and I can't get her to move in with us, she is fully alert and oriented and sharper than I am!! My brain is fried from years of ICU nursing.

To complicate things, we live in a very rural area where there aren't many caregivers we could find to come into her home.
