Hi,

I am posting here on behalf of my wife. she completed Bachelor of nursing in India and having one year experience. in between she got married and came to US on last year. she is on H4 visa. she started CGFNS process to give NCLEX exam to get license for New York state. almost 8 month over till now it's not completed. i don't think it will be complete by this year to search for h1b sponsor next year.

I don't want her to simply sitting in home and cook for me. I am planning to join her for MSN course. i have no idea eligibility and tuition fees for MSN course in US especially in Jersey city.

could you guy advice what are the alternative option to complete the CGFS process or the admission for process for MSN degree and the tuition fees for entire period. Thanks

Your wife will need an active RN license in order to get accepted to any MSN program.

The costs would vary greatly depending on the individual school.

Best wishes to both of you!

For one she will need a NJ nursing license and a student visa as H4 does not give work or student rights. There are almost no facilities sponsoring H1B as there are an excess of nurses seeking employment in the NY metro area

Under h4 you are allowed to attend school. On a dependent visa though like your wife has, you cannot take advantage of financial aid and OPT. Now regarding In-state tuitions, you can check the school's requirement.

On H4 or F1 you will be stuck with international rates as applicable (some graduate level programs only have one rate). Must be a citizen or legal permanent resident (green card) with 12+ months in state residence for in state rates. Private schools are usually single rate. Not all programs accept international students but you will need a NJ RN license to attend a NJ based MSN program. Get working on that ASAP as NJ BoN is not quick for initial or endorsed license.

A New York license will not help her in NJ, and the process for a NY license is 6-12 months

Graduate rates range from $650/credit hour (in state, public school) to $1200/credit hour (private school like Seton Hall).

From Rutgers regarding instate tuition

International students on H, F, or J visas are not eligible for in-state tuition rates. To be eligible for in-state tuition, you must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident (hold a green card), and have resided in New Jersey for a minimum of 1 year.
