I'm a new grad in an internship and A) My first day of orientation was Martin Luther King Jr Day (a federal holiday), and B) my first floor shift is tonight, 7p-7a. Welcome to nursing.

We had a lot of requests to be off today. I'm working tonight because, well, I have to . My DH and boys will have to shout and holler without me, I guess .

Now, if they were offering time and a half for the superbowl holiday...

No way was I going in today. I pick up a lot when we are short, even do the night shift off one day back the next day for dayshift. Normal shift is days. I requested Super Bowl Sunday off months ago as it is my Birthday. Yeah, also Pats are my team. Go Pats. Also requested tomorrow off as well.

The one night in six months that I stay up past midnight, and then I get a call at 0430 this morning telling me the dayshift med aide is sick and neither of the other two are answering their phones. Gotta love that.

I work registry and my only day I can work this week is tomorrow. I am kind of counting on people calling in after wild Super Bowl parties! Mondays can be tough for registry on L&D.

Yeah, I work in LTC and I worked the 6-230 shift this am, we had a CNA come in this am at 10 to work a 12 hour shift (2nd day of off orientation) 1st she said she thought she had strep throat, took her temp 98.5, didn't look or act sick at all. Told her she needed to stay no temp.
Then 1/2 hour later she came and said she ripped the stitches out of her finger and needed a bandaide, 2 little stitches in her finger, covered it with a bandaide for her (had a hard time feeling sorry for her I had my gall bladder out 10 days ago and came to work with 15 staples in my belly!)
The 1/2 hour later she said now she was throwing up and had to go home! We got tired of listening to her complain and sent her home!
Why didn't she just call in in the 1st place she wasted a lot of our time!

I am surprised that Superbowl Sunday isn't a national legal holiday in this country so sports obsessed.
Now make it a special rate, say double time to fill in for sick calls....they would have no prob.

This is funny. Neither the Giants nor the Patriots are paying my bills...so I truly don't give a d@mn about the Game. My bills get paid by coming to work, so I happily clock in once I'm here (and sometimes get to see some of the game anyway). Oh, and since it's always on Sunday...my significant weekend diff kicks in and I enjoy it that much more.

Yes, I'm working tonight.
