Hello. I'm a new grad and currently work at a local community hospital on a crazy med surg/tele floor. I'm very unhappy here and have looked into other positions. I have interviewed at an eye surgery ambulatory surgery center to circulate in pre/post op and OR and would love the opportunity however I'm just not sure will being so specialized limit my future nursing skills and ability to get other jobs? I'm currently planning to move to California this fall(already submitted my license info to Cali i should have my license by end of February or beginning of March), but i just don't know which route to take best for my future endeavors to move to Cali. Any input would be great! Thank you!

I'm not sure how new a new grad you are, but if you haven't been in your current job for at least a year, stay put. This advice is doubly important since you're planning to move to "Cali" (California?) in the fall. Of you change jobs now, you'll have less than a year of experience in that job when you move, even if you've already got a year of experience in your current job. The appearance (or fact) of job hopping isn't going to make it easier to get a new job once you've relocated.

I agree with rubyvee. Also as you guessed working in an ambulatory eye clinic will limit your skills.

I worked on a tele floor that at times was like med-surg overflow and other times was like a step-down unit (but without the benefit of lower ratio), so I know how rough it can be. With that said, I think your best bet for securing employment in California is sticking it out on that unit for at least a year.

Best wishes.
