Malpractice insurance does not make you more vulnerable to a lawsuit.

It is the prudent nurse who carries liability.

Most homeowners insurance companies offer nurse malpractice, as long as you aren't in an advanced practice like CRNA. I have State Farm and they provide coverage for an extra $89.00 a year :) on our policy.

Keep in mind, a hospital or any employer for that matter, is always looking in terms of their best interest...not yours. A personal policy will cover your butt!

A lawyer needs money to survive. He is going to go after money. If you have a policy he will go after that money in a heartbeat.

As for your home etc. They are protected by law.

As for your future earnings if you are sued whether you have insurance or not you will probably lose your license. Either way you have lost your earnings as a nurse.

Remember who's pushing .. The people who sell it.

If you lose future earnings or not, I was talking about any money you have saved, cars, houses. As far as Houses being protected by law, you don't know what a lein is do you. Anyone that has a judgement against you can get leins on your house, car, boats, motorcycles, and more. They can garnish your future wages no matter if you end up digging ditches for the rest of your life. If you think after losing a law suit, you will be protected by law, think again. That is what law suits are about, taking YOUR money and giving it to somone else to compensate the other person. The law is all about giving them ways to collect it. If you want to count on the law to protect you against a law suit, all I can say is good luck. If you don't want to spend under a hundred dollars a year to protect yourself, it's your future you put at risk.

And if you have I can gaurantee you will get sued. And if you think your policy will cover everything you are wrong.

And if you think money will cover you emotional turmoil of just being sued I have ocean front property in Arizona cheap.

I took care of a patient for 6 weeks. She sued. Everyone knew she was suing that's why the hospital let her stay so long. I charted appropriately.

I even charted that she was not complying with my nursing instructions.

I was never even deposed. Let alone sued. Another nurse, with malpractice, was. She took care of the lady for ONE day.

I'd like you to site some cases where nurses have lost their house. And what is a car worth. OMG the bank owns most of it anyway.

Americans got out of debtors prison right about the end of the Revolutionary War.

This is becoming an arguement, so, I'm done. We don't want to get away from the purpose of these forums. Let's leave it at you don't believe insurance is a good thing, and I do. I think we have both explained our point of view, and now we are just splitting hairs.
