Writing a letter of appeal... Need help

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a former .............. student. I made it to the senior semester and was dismissed from the program. With this letter, I am urging you to reconsider me for re-enrollment for Spring 2017.

I admit that I had a difficult time in the Spring semester of 2016 and as a result my grades and overall performance suffered. I am not making excuses, although with this letter I would like to explain the circumstances. Life hit me pretty hard that semester. I had recently lost my job so I was struggling financially trying to manage bills as I was living on my own and also trying to cover the expenses of nursing school. Not only was I dealing with financial problems, I was also in the first trimester of an unplanned pregnancy. The exhaustion and numerous days of being ill added on to the stress of class and being financially unstable. I thought that I could handle these burdens, but I was wrong. Looking back, I realize that I should have made the decision to take a break and sit that semester out. I could have even taken one of the two classes to lighten the load. I do admit that I sometimes put too much on myself that I can not handle. I also did not want to let my family down, but ultimately I have to learn to do what is best for me.

I am now currently employed as a Patient Care Tech at Noland Hospital. I have gained a lot of knowledge working alongside the nurses there that I truly believe can be applied to nursing school. I have also moved back in with my parents, cutting down on expenses. I have an awesome support system to fall back on as well. I strongly believe that these things reduce my stress load tremendously. If I am able to re-enroll, I will focus more on my studies and manage my time wisely by planning ahead. I will also communicate more with my professors by seeking help when I feel as though I am in over my head.

I've had quite a journey in nursing school, and I attribute my success to persevering and never giving up. Florence Nightingale once said, "I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took an excuse." This quote means a lot to me and is what inspires me to keep going even when the odds are against me. I firmly believe that God called upon me to become a nurse and serve. I do not believe He brought me this far to leave me. Because of this, I am not giving up and I hope you all do not give up on me as well.

I would give you a shot based on that. Best of luck to you.
