I have only been working three months and it feels like I have been working in a psych ward. All these old people in the ICU are crazy. I have almost been punched twice so far. Restraints are helpful in these situations. Does anyone have any funny stories they can share?

One of the funniest/slightly unethical things I saw:

There was a older chap with a totally bad brain injury, he had been long term in the ICU and was by now not intubated.

My friend had tied his shackle restraints, posey type things, together. So he had his legs and wrists connected on each side of his body and up in the air and was it funny!

I must stress this was a middle of night for no more than a couple of minutes activity and he did not really mind it, I meant at least he was not tied down. He just flayed about, hands and legs in unison, with no idea what the hell was going on, which is just what he did 24/7 anyway.

I specialed the poor guy months later and there was almost nil improve, like I said really bad brain injury.

My funny old person story happened during NS. I had a LOL with C-diff and low K.

Being a new nursing student, I was already scared so I went into the room and I introduced my self and she said oh what a pretty girl you are. Just like your grandmother. (my grandmother is dead.) I was like oh you knew my grandmother. And she was like No, I just met her dear, she is right there next to you. I almost freaked out. She said it in this really creepy voice and then started talking with my grandmother. :D I laugh about it now but that day I didn't want to go back in there.
