KUDOS to LTC nurses

I went out to lunch today and there was a group of nursing home residents with a couple members of the nursing staff out eating lunch. I just thought it was a very nice thing to see. I love my elderly patients, it is my favorite patient population to take care of. However, I don't think I could ever do LTC nursing. So after seeing that today, I felt like I need to tell all you LTC nurses and nursing assistants--thank you for taking care of our elderly population, it takes a very special person to work in LTC.

Thanks it is always nice to hear something positive about nursing home nursing. I would have to agree the elderly are a great bunch of people to work with.

Thank you!!! I'm a new nurse that started at a local ltc about 2 months ago cause the money is good, the experience is good, and a friend gave me a good reference! haha. I was put on 2nd shift on the subacute unit, vents and trachs, we call it the psych/ICU. I do love the residents and it breaks my heart when we lose one, which is often! So, just thanks for the kudos, it helps!

Thanks for the kudos! LTC is one of the more thankless, underappreciated areas of nursing, so it is always nice when someone thanks us for what we do.

Like the OP stated, it is always nice to see LTC caregivers out with their residents. I remember working at a restaurant during high school and seeing ALFs bringing their residents in week after week. No one made any comments when they were there; however, most were just glad to see their elderly counterparts still being an actice part of society. I give credit to all of my LTC/ECF fellow nurses. It is one area that I wouldn't be able to work in, but it definitely deserves much respect for those who are employed there!!!
