Journals for nurses who want more

Hey all,

I think Nursing2008 and Nursing Made Incredibly Easy are good journals for nursing but I'm looking for a journal that is a bit more medical. I'm looking for a journal that talks about the the current appropiate practice for patients. A journal for nurses that like to look deeper. Is there any journal that you non-mediocre recommend?

Zach

The American Journal of Nursing is a bit more deeper thans those other two you mentioned.

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International publishes a pretty decent journal

Also - if you are interested in a specialty subject, many nursing organizations publish their own. I subscribe to the Journal of Emergency Nursing and the American Association of Nephrology Nursees and both are very medical and in-depth with research-driven articles.

As others have said, there are many more nursing journals out there. Most specialty groups have their own journals and there are also journals that cross specialties focusing on research and other scholarly activities.

Maybe you should go to a good health care library (at a college that has a nursing program or a large hospital) and simply spend an afternoon browsing the shelves. You would quickly get a sense of the possibilities. You would also be able to get the information you would need to subscribe to the one(s) of your choice.

Happy hunting!

'because you care' are good articles that give information, apply it to clinical practice and is concise enough usually that it sticks in your head.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think a specialty magazine might be the way to go. I'm a tele nurse and there isn't really a cardiac care magazine just for tele nurses but there is that British journal that looks good.
I used to subscribe to AJN but grew tired of their political focus. I felt it was very "unclinical." I will continue my search. Thanks all!

Maybe I'm a traitor, but I read more medical journals than nursing journals when I *really* want to dig in and understand something.

I like a pp's idea of going to the library at your hospital or school and perusing through a broad variety of journals to see what you like.

AJN is no longer an ANA publication but owned by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins....you might want to look at a current issue.
