Which job would you choose???

Background: I have 3 years LPN exp. and I started in ICU as a new grad RN last year,I left after 8 months due to hostile work enviroment. After that, I got hired full time nights in the ED. I'm not cut out for nights, I know my body and nights is not for me. I accepted the job because it was the closet to me and seem to be the best choice at the time. I'm one month into my orientation at the ED. Even though I don't like nights and feel that I'm constantly flustered with the pace of the ED, I absoutely LOVE the nurses I work with.
I have never met such a great group of nurses, who are supportive and ever so kind. I get along with most of the docs and my NM, seems great too. My ultimate goal is to be a PP nurse, however I've been on interviews and haven't been selected so I have no choice but to work in other specialties. My current job will allow transfer after 6 months, however the hospital where the ICU job, rejected me for the PP position when I applied a few months back.
I really rather stay in the ED, but only if it is part time. I'm so afraid to ask, being that I'm so new.
I cannot do FT nights anymore, it really is ruining my life.....

Are you the same person that had just been on nights a few weeks? The way you describe your work colleagues tells me they're worth more than gold- I'd advise you to try to stick it out for that alone. Check some of the threads on adjusting to night shift to see if that will help your body get it together-- night nurses tend to be a strong bunch and they have a lot of compensatory moves that can help you.

    Good luck!

Thank you. I was leaning on staying in the ED, just because of the staff and team work. Great co-workers are hard to find. A good job and shift can suck if you don't have a supportive team. I'm going to talk to my boss, to see if I can go parttime when an opening comes up.
The ED is rough, but not intolerable. Every night, I say I'm never coming back but it is still a small voice telling me to stick it out, and that this will pass.
The roughest is from about 1900-0300. It usually slows down around 0300 which makes it tolerable.

I don't know that PP means...but, there is nothing wrong w/going to your boss and asking him/her if it's possible to go to part time and why..you can tell the NM you know you are knew but you know already that nights is not something you can do long term and feel you perform better if allowed to go part time..the likelihood of the NM agreeing is low I'd think but..even with your liking your coworkers - if there is another ED or another hospital around you that has part time you may want to think of applying there..if you can't request a transfer for 6 months I don't know if the hospital would agree to change anything until the 6 month period.
I wish I was a night person but I'm not - there are SO many jobs around where I am for nights that would be of interest but like you, I know nights is not my thing..yet my spouse works nights and would not ever want days...

You're right. I know nights isn't my thing. I've done it before parttime and that was all I could take. I just hate letting my current boss down.
