Is this HIPAA violation?

Nurses General Nursing

A nurses posted a Thank you note from a patient on social media. You could see the name of the hospital and room number, no other pt. info.. Is this a HIPAA violation?

No, because even though the patient probably didn't intend it to be public, if your description is correct there were no dates or identifiable patient information.

However, the nurse could still be in trouble c the hospital for violation of a social media rule.

It was a stupid thing to do in the first place. Why does everybody think that the world is so damn interested in them and the kudos they get? I have a whole drawer full of nice notes that I pull out and reread when I'm feeling discouraged, but it would never occur to me to document getting one on FB or somesuch. Good grief. Can nothing be kept to ones's self anymore? Boundaries, people, boundaries.

GrnTea, I very much agree with you !!!
