Is their any online ACLS or PALS accredidated classes

Specializes in Emergency.

Hi there,

You'll find plenty of so-called "accredited" ones online, but if your facility requires the American Heart Association ACLS and PALS (which both my hospital and EMS of employment require), you'll need to find an actual AHA (physical) class for your initial.

If you're employed at a hospital, they may have those classes under their educational offerings. In my area, the classes at three of the hospitals are free for employees directly involved in patient care... the only cost is $6 for the card itself, and the book may also be an expense, which can usually be borrowed. However, a lot of times these hospital classes are also open to "outsiders" if space permits. You just have to pay the class fee.

Hope it helps.

I took "accredited" ACLS and PALS through one company. My employer refused to accept them, so I was out over $700. And of course the hospital does it's own orientations and required classes on the web. Tread carefully lest ye loose much money.

There's no easy way online to do acls/pals, and it is very expensive and might not be accepted by your employer. Your gonna have to take a two day class with other folks, sitting for 6-8 hours a day, being bored to death, then on the last day do the embarrassing "codes" and appear to know what you are talking about in the scenarios. Then you have to take a written test and pass. They won't just "pass" you through because you paid your 200-400 dollars either. Nurses teach these classes and they will know if you are incompetent or haven't learned anything in the class. You just have to muddle through and learn the stuff, even though you will rarely use it because most hospitals have rapid response teams and code teams who take over as soon as they arrive to pt's room. It's just another expensive class hospitals want us to have.

You can go here: http://www.aclsonline.us/ and pay $275 to complete the course and written exam online. However, there is a skills checklist that will still need to be completed in the hospital or under supervision by a nurse educator or someone already certified in ACLS. That said, it might be easier to just take a course in-hospital & get everything done at one time. I found the manual and precourse assessments to be very helpful in ACLS certification.

Here also are some useful sites to prepare for ACLS:

It generally must be AHA accredited for most places to accept. But there's no way any hospital will accept an online ONLY class. You could read/learn and do the "written" test online maybe, but you have to be actually seen to do the skills part where you run a code.

I just completed the HeartCode Part 1 of ACLS through the American Heart Association, and paid $105 for the online class. I called my employer to see what I needed to do to complete my ACLS certification and it turns out all I need to do is the check off.

I really liked the online format. I had to do some studying outside the online program because it had been a while since I worked with EKGs.

First you need to make sure what type of certification your employer wants. If they want AHA-accredited ACLS/PALS certification, then you must get it from the AHA. Any other accredited ACLS/PALS courses will not be accepted. You can review all of the online material on AHA's website and then you will just have to schedule with an ACLS-certified instructor to do your skills test. You still have to pay for the course though...I think it's around $200.

Also, check with your employer - they usually offer these classes at little or no cost for employees. My hospital offers them and all we have to do is pay $30 for the book.

I've been a nurse for a long time and have always had success through this site: acls-pals-bls.com. You'll want to ask your employer if you need a skills test for them to accept it though. They give you access to a receipt page that makes it really easy to get reimbursed by your hospital too.

American Heart asso requires a demonstration of competency, not just passing a written test. We have an AHA-approved training center and will allow people who have done the AHA online course to register for our skills lab and do the competency portion. They have to pay for the online course and then pay us, so not sure it is a bargain.
