Is it ok to call and ask?

I graduated from PN school last week and am awaiting my ATT. I'd like to work as a nurses aide (although I haven't taken the certification test) until I can get my license. If I call personal at some LTC places to ask about this do you think I'll come off as being annoying? I just hate to waste time and money on gas if it's going to be in vain. Thanks for your opinions :)

It never hurts to ask, all they can do is say no.

But, why bother with applying for a CNA position? Wait til you get your LPN then apply for LPN jobs in LTC.

I don't know. I have to wait for my authorization to test before I can even schedule =)

I just don't want to be annoying. I'm afraid they'll think like you and want me to wait. Our funds are running low and it may be another month before I have license in hand. Also, considering people in LTC don't wear arm bands so I'd like to learn who is who before I'm responsible for their nursing care :)

They do wear arm bands in my facility and you learn who is who and what they like pretty quickly.

Why don't you see if you can apply for the limited grad nurse permit? And start looking for jobs. Only thing is that if you dont pass your boards the first time the facility might not keep you as an LPN. (That's what I have heard)

It just doesn't make sense to be to become a CNA when in 2-3 months you are able to get into a nursing position and then you have to relearn everything.

Not many places will want to train in a CNA for the short period until you can work as a nurse.
