Is 26 too old to go back to school?

Get a grip girl............... Age is a thing it means nothing. One old guy here in Australia finished his PHd on steam engines, I met an old lady 85 finishing her Masters, I'm 55 and finishing my Masters in Ed Have you ever heard of lifelong learning. Why do you need our opinion it's irelevent what we thinh it is what you think that matters. If you are feelong old at 26 what on earth will you be loke when you are my age.

Hi, I'm currently working on obtaining my BSN in nursing. Before this degree, I pursued a BA in education. I thought that I wanted to be a teacher. After all it was something that I'd wanted to do since childhood. However, once midway through college something inside of me clicked. I didn't really want to be a teacher, but because I was halway through the program, and had taken loans I decided to go through with it anyway. I took my test for my credentials and once I found myself in the classroom setting, I realized that it was not what I wanted to do and should have trusted my gut instinct instead.
I was always drawn to nursing. Especially when in my junior year of college I went to my doctor and he misdiagnosed my symptoms of being the result of stress. I went to the school NP, and she ran test and found out it was more than stress. (I was SEVERELY anemic)
I was impressed and wanted to make a career change before I started my career as a teacher but was to scared to do so.
To make a long story shorter, everyone in my extended family keeps asking me why am I still in school. The one that really bugs me is everyone saying that I'm simple to old to go back to school. Should I be offended? Has anyone else heard someone say they were to old?

I'm 27 and recently went back to school for Nursing. I have a bachelors and associates the school I went to was a 2year then if you wanted to continue your degree. I also went back to school because I couldnt find a good job in my major I took a 5 month grad level paralegal cerfiticate. You are not too old dont listen to anyone. There are all different ages people are going back to school. Just hold your head up high and say you can do it. Thats all you need

I was 51 when I graduated from an AA program and finished my BSN at 56. My family is soo proud of me as I am of myself and know this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I absolutely love being a nurse.

I went back to nursing school at age 30 and graduated at age 33. I felt that my "real life" experience gave me a definite edge over the 18 and 19 year olds in my class!! Go for it and enjoy every minute of it!! And, by the way, I was NOT the oldest in my class, either!

I have been asking myself the same thing. I am 34 and life has thrown me a few curves. I became an LPN right out of high school after two years of college. I had one child and was going to school a little at night. I really wanted to get my BSN. Well, I had another child and could not find reliable child care so I decided to stay home and care for my children full-time. I missed nursing, but with my husbands schedule I could not work nights or weekends. I never found a Mon-Fri job so I decided to take an office job. I have been here 5 1/2 years and hate it!!!! I want to go back to nursing, but will need to take a refresher course. I also want to get my BSN still. During the time I was at home I considered being a teacher as well and took some education courses and did a little student teaching. It just wasn't in me. Helping others is where my heart is at. I know it would be like starting over, but nursing is the only job I enjoyed every day! An education is never wasted. Many people get degrees and work for years hating their jobs or wind up changing careers many times after thousands in student loans. Who cares if you are still in school, at least you are not afraid to try! I don't want to be one of those people who wonder "what if."

Is this thread for real? If the OP is seriously asking if 26 is too old to go back to school then I seriously question his/her maturity and ability to be a nurse. I wouldn't want a nurse that has such a limited view of the world.

I am 37 and I was an LPN and I just became an RN. Too old? As long as your brain cells are clicking, you are not too old. I can't believe we are having this conversation. Make sure you stay far away from people with this type of low thinking while you are in the program. You don't need comments like that around you. In my class, majority of my classmates were in the 30's 40's and some 50's. Go for it.

I'm in nursing school now and one of my teachers was 41 when she got her GED, 46 when she became an RN, and now she's 61 with her msn. By the way I'm 33 so it is never too late.

My son and I started school at the same time this year. He in his senior year in high school at 17, me as an LVN student at 48. I have 2 weeks left and the only thing I regret is not having done it sooner. By the way, I will be going on to get my RN and I will be 50+ by then. Am I too old? Well, I have 4 children 3 dogs, a husband, have had diabetes for 18 years, and HTN for 3. The only thing I can say is NO NO NO!!!! If we are going to teach our patients the importance of not giving up (on feeling better), what better way that teaching by example. To all of you out there that are thinking of doing something, whether it be go back to school, take a trip, change jobs, etc., do not give up. You have the rest of your life to enjoy it. Boy, a lot of us like to learn....any advice for me? I am 64 and am going back to school...my quandry is do I go for the aa to ba in nursing, or do I get a ba in health administration. I am disabled, and can't do direct care anymore, but would like to open an assisted living facility and, in the meantime to case management, which often requires a ba. In actual fact, I am not that interested in Nursing, per se, but want a leadership role. Any suggestions will be appreciated, especially from any of you who are healthcare administrators. Thanks.
