Infection Control protocol infraction?????

  1. I have recently resigned a post at a private Hospice facility as a direct result of an order from the Hospice Program Director that all Charge Nurses on 2nd. shift had to wear phone headsets to answer the facility's phone after office hours. My problem with this madatory order was that as the only "Licensed Nurse" on shift, I had to care for AIDS pts and Respiratory Isolation pts.usually MRSA---in most cases in very close proximity to each other. My question is---is there an infraction of the Infection Control protocols at work here or are the headsets considered "A nursing tool like a thermometer, stethoscope etc. or was I right to refuse ,as I felt (and still feel) an unreasonable and unsafe edict?unresasonable and unsafe
