Indianapolis hospitals

Greetings!

I am currently a BSN prepared RN practicing in the state of Florida with just under 2 years experience. Unfortunetly, due to circumstances, divorce among the top of the list, I am considering moving to Indianapolis where most of my immediate family lives. I have worked only in Florida and at one particular non-for-profit, Magnet hospital with which i am very happy. I have done some PRN work at another area hospital where i am constantly counting down the hours - I hate it there. This has made me very hesitant to just up and leave my current employer.

I was wondering if you could share your insights regarding Indianapolis area hospitals, i.e which are considered good places to work, which arent, which encourage education, pay, ect.

You should Google the Indiana Heart Hospital, which has a WONDERFUL reputation. By the way, Indianapolis has a very high crime rate, I advise that you move to a suburb, such as Fishers or Carmel. Most of the hospitals are located on the north side, and Fishers and Carmel are north of Indpls.

There are many hospitals to choose from. I disagree with the crime for all of Indy. If you go to the east side or west side, yes there is crime. In those places mainly inside of 465. I lived on the east side right outside of 465 and I was fine. The south side and north side are fine. Carmel is a bit pricey I know a divorce can be hard on the wallet. Community hospital system is good. St. Vincent is also a big hospital system, then you have IU Health. The north side has expanded greatly in the Fishers-Noblesville area and is very family friendly. So is Greenwood. I love Indy. Spent last night in downtown. Good Luck!!

The Indiana Heart Hospital is a part of the Community Health Network which was just voted one of the top 10 employers in the state.

Google Eskenazi Health, St. Vincent, IU Health, Community, and St. Francis - I think those are all of the major hospitals/hospital networks in the Indy area. The job market is coming around after the big hit it took last year.

I recommend looking closely at all the hospitals and make sure you get into an environment that you will be happy in. My hospital is currently losing great RN's because the upper management is really into micro-management and abuse of its nurses right now. It is a very sad time.

I work in the St. Francis Heart Center on the South side of Indianapolis. It's a great place to work!

I can't comment too much on the different facilities as most of my experience has been with the St.Vincent 86th street and IU Health in downtown Indianapolis, but try to get a feel for the hospital. Maybe ask for a tour and (as I'm sure you well know, the culture of a hospital can make or break your employment experience).

How does one find those things out? A hospital is going to their put best foot forward to an applicant, the same way a nurse does to a prospective employer.

Did you actually read my post? I acknowledged crime on the east and west side, but it's not everywhere. I actually get my news from channel 11.
