In need of some guidance

I feel lost and discouraged, and in need of some guidance. I graduated a few years back but took some time off after i graduated for personal reasons. I have my RN license but havent practiced yet. Have been looking for a job since december of last year. And still no luck.

Not sure what to do now or which way to go? This job search has taken a toll on me personally, spiritually, mentally. Everything feels like it has come to a standstill. I considered taking a refresher course. Would that help my chances in getting hired?

Specializes in PACU, CARDIAC ICU, TRAUMA, SICU, LTC.

1. You will be considered a new graduate.

2. I would not even apply for a job without taking a refresher course; do yourself

a favor; take the refresher course...to be honest, without it, you would not be

considered for employment.

Refresher course, get certified in ACLS and such, volunteer... do as much as possible. If you are in California, you can do the Rural California Nursing Preceptorship Program... it is offered to students as well as returning nurses as a "refresher" as well. You'd be working along side with a RN for a required number of hours in your area of interest. :D Good luck!

Take a refresher course. It will boost your confidence and bring you up to date with new info. Find one with a clinical component. It may open you up to some opportunities. Don't be discouraged, these are bad times. Good luck.

i have done the same i graduated a couple years ago, took time off ( found out I was pregnant after graduating) got my license took the refresher, went back to my schools career center for help with my resume still no luck, still have my job from while i was in school (not in medical at all) that does not pay anything hardly to live on what should i do also i feel for anyone who is going through this in this stupid economy does anyone have ant sugestion also

Thank you all for your comments. I will take that refresher course. I think it will jumpstart a more proactive path for me....I had talked to a nurse recruiter and asked if volunteering will help me and she said that it wouldnt neccessarily make a huge difference. But if i did or did a preceptorship type program, how would i go about searching for that? I live in the state of Maryland. I had searched volunteer programs and such but wasnt sure what to look for. Like i said i just need to pointed in the right direction.
