I'm kind of ticked!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

When I hired in to the facility I work in now, I was told I would receive a raise after I graduated and then again when I received my nursing license. I was told I would make $14.50 an hour as a nurse.

I started work then as a CNA making $9.50 an hour.

Now I have graduated, they didn't want to give me my GPN raise. Had to fight for it with the administrator yesterday. She said since I had signed a paper in the beginning, it said I would only receive a raise AFTER I was licensed.

We re-read the paper which was typed up when my DON was going to quit, so I would still have a position as a nurse after I was licensed. It DID say that I would receive a raise after I was licensed.

But, in the paper, which I KNEW was a catch 22 when I signed it, it said I would start at new nurses wages. Hindsight is 20/20 they say...(it didn't say $14.50, like I was quoted)

Now, my GPN wage is $11.50 and my nursing wage will be somewhere around $13, they say... :(

Excuse being...we were just bought by a new company and they don't have the new budget yet. I may start at $13 or it may go up to $14...who knows? :angryfire

I'm thinking about giving them a couple of weeks, and telling them that I need to know how much I will be paid since I am going to other interviews and I need to weigh my options....

What do you all think?

Julie :(

So sorry, I was speaking about starting RN salary which on Long Island is minimum $45,000 to start. That's about $23.50/hr. With starter houses running in the $300,000 range and taxes for small home $4000 to $6000 a year, not so great really.

I would say bye bye AFTER I contacted the better business bureau, and AFTER I had a meeting with them to discuss exactly how they value their nurses. If a union is available, involve them...Good luck. Next time get in direct writing and when you(if you do) go to a new facility, tell them exactly what you want and indicate you won't accept anything that isn't put into writing. Pardon me for asking but is 14.50 an RN or LPN starting salary? Sounds kind of low to me....

OOps sorry, guess I missed a couple of posts. That is low( around here) even for an LPN...
