I heard it for the last two days till I am sick of it.

Actually, I'm just sick of the patient. She is without a doubt the rudest patient I have had the displeasure of caring for.

She frequently told me she knew I wasn't a good nurse. If I were a good nurse, I wouldn't be fat, because nurses shouldn't have time to sit around and eat all the patient's food (I'm 5'4, 160lb, btw-not exactly a whale of a woman). And I am lazy because I took 5 minutes to bring her a pepsi-that I had to walk to the cafeteria and get for her 250lb tail.

Was told numerous times she would sue us when she was discharged-when I asked her exactly what for, I was just told becuase I was so incompetant.

I could go on about this witch, but I'm so sick of her, I don't want to type anymore. Not confused, BTW. A&Ox4, 58 years old. Gave all the staff hell. Even told the doc not to come back in her room till her learned english (he's from india, and does have an accent, but has good english skills). This was after he waited outside her door 20 minutes for her to finish bathing-at which point I went in and told her to get dressed and get back in bed, or he was coming in with her bathing. (if he did, she would sue). :banghead:

I just hate people like her. They make the job a little hard to swallow.

I'm sorry you have such a witchy with a b patient. I think it's time to share the wealth, and let the other nurses have the fun of this lady for a while. Maybe everyone (except you, you've done your time) could take her for a shift. Maybe by the time you rotate everyone she will be gone.

Had the pleasure of discharging her yesterday. She didn't want to go home, but the doctor on call basically told her he was sick of her verbal abuse, and so was the rest of the staff, and she was more then well enough to go home.

Did to tell your supervisor what was going on? We are instructed to report any time the client starts going on about suing so it can be documented. I'm sorry you had such a bad time of it. Hugs, Jules

i soooo agree w/mlos.

next time she starts, walk out.

when she confronts you about your 'rude behavior' (which we know she will), calmly inform her that you will not tolerate her abuse any longer, and will continue in walking away every time she starts in on you.

if you have to do some tasks and she starts, do not engage in any type of conversation.

not one word.

make sure all her med'l needs are tended to, and no more favors.

and the nn's???

yep, you know what you have to do.

I had a wonderful 19 year old patient last night with gunshot wound and he was ok for the most part until he referred to me as a b*tch while using an array of four letter words. Then we had a talk. "I am not your maid, I am your nurse. Do you talk to you're mother like that? Do you think you're cool with that nasty mouth. You will not refer to me like that, I will not tolerate it."....He got some puppy-dog look on his face and said "yes ma'am"

I would make sure to document the patient"s constant threats. I'm not sure it it would be ok to do so in her chart but I would definately write an incident report. At my job, we are allowed to write an incident report for verbal threats such as lawsuits. That way at least something is documented. Anytime a patient refuses to do something I always document it in the chart along with "risks and benefits explained to patient" "patient still refuses".

these people are bullies, they pick on you when they know you really can't fight back.. i hate these type of people .. when someone tells me they are going to sue me i say "that's your right" and tell them what i need to tell them... i get so sick of people treating nurses like cow chips , they complain and think we have to solve all their problems... the food is bad, the water dosen't taste right , you gave me to much ice, your to slow on getting my pain med, i want wheat bread instead of white, blah blah blah.... i get sick of them ... i'm glad you got rid of her ... send her back to the hole she came back from... bullies thats all they are... just like the kids on the play ground who pick on little kids who can't fight back... :banghead:

I wonder what she said to that. Kudos to the doc for standing up to her.

I would be documenting my butt off, and, after informing her that it is not okay for her to talk to staff like that, I would be grabbing my manager and/or house sup so fast her head would spin. NO. WAY. That is the reason why sometimes I hate my job. If you worked at McDonalds, would anyone be allowed to speak to you like that? It's bull, and it has to stop.

If I was having one of my many crazy moments I probably would have said "sue me, go ahead. I don't care. I already know that the care I provided you was exemplary and you have no case"
