Illinois nurse practice act

Nurses General Nursing

Does anyone know if Illinois if the Nurse Practice Act states that only a nurse can take orders from a physician and only a nurse can call in a prescription ordered by a physician? I have been told by some people that only nurses are allowed to call in prescriptions or take orders, but it seems to be common practice for MAs or other designated clinic staff to do so as well.

Did you even try to go to the IL NPA and find out the answer for this?

We are just another set of "some people" so it doesn't really matter what any of us know or think we know. If you want an accurate answer, go to the source. I am certain that your NPA is available online for viewing.

I have read the NPA and don't see that written that only a nurse can call in meds but I have nurses that swear that it says only they can call them in so then I'm thinking maybe something is in it that doesn't state that directly but is interpreted that way.
