If not a nurse...what????

So, if you considered nursing but had another dream career what would you have done????

I wanted to be a vet so badly but got a grant from my State for Nursing School! I took it..duh why not...been in healthcare since I was young! But I still long for a career in vet! (I have better results with pets and their owners than people some days! LOL!)

What was your dream job? And lets keep it to non nursing okay??? We all know about loving nursing...but what about other professions too???

I'm in my dream job now. I'm a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). When I was younger I wanted to be a nurse just like my aunt. I found that I get along better with animals and their people better than I do most people. I know that the money is much less and the benefits may not be as much as what nurses get but I've been able to get along fine in most cases. I get to do alot in my job and each day is different.

If I were to win the lottery (HA HA), I would like to have some affordable pet friendly rentals in my area. It is really sad when people move here and cannot find a place where they can have their pets.

Specializes in Clinical Research, Outpt Women's Health.

Well - I originally wanted to be a diplomat for the UN, or a stewardess (that is what it was called back then!).

A Librarian. I love books!

I was a library assistant in high school and loved it. Even when I accidentally due date cards with Feb 30 and Feb 31 one time!

Specializes in Emergency/Trauma/Education.

Federal law enforcement...FBI, DEA, US Marshal, etc. But that was then...

Now...never thought I'd say this, but I would love to quit work and stay at home with my daughter. (She'll be a month old tomorrow!) I absolutely love being a nurse, but quickly figured out it doesn't hold a candle to this "Mom" gig!

I hope that you can stretch out your time off for as long as possible. Even though there will be days when you miss the old "neighborhood" you can always bring your baby to the unit and have lunch with your co workers. But, you may regret the time not spent with her when she needs you more than anyone else in this world. Congratulation on your new job!!!!!!!

My "dream" career would be a photographer. I am one now, but kids and weddings isn't high fashion or National Geographic. :rotfl: I really enjoy being behind the camera and capturing beauty on film. Unfortunatly it doesn't really pay the bills. I love caring for others and that is why I'm beginning nursing school in January, but photography is my passion. My lifelong dream is to travel to Italy, Greece, Ireland and New Zealand to take some magnificent photographs. Sigh! Some day................

I agree with you about the pet friendly rentals. There are virtually none where I live either. I won't move without my pet.

Specializes in Surgical Intensive Care.

Growing up I always wanted to be a marine biologist and live at sea studying the patterns of animals and all that, but now that I married a man who hates the water, my dreams have changed. I dream of moving back to Brazil and opening an orphanage with a million kids!

Specializes in NICU.

My #1 Dream Job: A fantasy/mystery/scifi/horror writer. Unfortunately, I get about halfway through a novel and get writer's block, so that's not gonna happen. :rotfl:

I wanted to be a Dr. growing up (heart or eye surgeon to be specific) If it wasn't for . . . you know . . . life getting in the way, that is what I would have done. However, after learning so much about nursing and how much it differs from being a Dr., I much prefer the nursing with the day-to-day hands-on care. Perhaps it's a good thing life got in the way. :) I am actually pursuing my real dream (my grown-up one) of becoming a Neonatal NP. (Yes, loooooooong road ahead of me, but who says we can't have our dreams?) :D
