I work with some immature nurses.

Nurses General Nursing

Specializes in ICU/Critical Care.

The other night at work, a couple of the other nurses at work were messing around on facebook, leaving each other rather inappropriate messages....while at work. Well apparently they got called into the office for it and then this morning, one of them confronted me and asked me if I was the one who turned them in. I did not. It just sets such a bad example for the newer nurses, to be honest, these nurses haven't been here on the unit that long. Anyways, it really ticked me off that they assumed it was me who turned them in, I wasn't the only other nurse working that night. I ignored their little immature activity because I was too busy with my own patient to care at that time. If they had acted professionally maybe they wouldn't have gotten into trouble.

Specializes in Emergency, CCU, SNF.

Yeah....Facebook, Myspace....I worked with people who would actually go into a patient room, sit and text away or even better, use the room phone. I love my cell and my computer, but I like my paycheck better.

Specializes in trauma, ortho, burns, plastic surgery.

So if you wasn't.... why you need to justiy yourself???? Just for my curiosity?

Specializes in LTC, Disease Management, smoking Cessati.

They behaved badly and got caught, they just need to be accountable for themselves, but many people, not just nurses, find it more comforting to think it is the fault of someone other than themselves. Just let it roll off your back, and hold your head high! This too shall pass.

because it ticked me off. I hate when people make assumptions.

They must have not enough work.

Social networking sites are blocked at work, but I am guilty of checking my e-mail and some other small tasks at work. This doesn't take away from patient care, because I'm also the first to answer a light when I'm playing around.

I thought coming in here though you may be referring to nurses that get in flush wars, or try and stick tape on each other (with no words) and silly stuff like that. Because that I am guilty of, and I don't think it makes me a bad nurse. It makes my coworkers better as a team if we can joke around and take a stress reliever.

Well you can check your emails but on your breaks.

It's all about accountability. People would rather blame someone for telling on them, then realize their very act of being on the internet was what got them in trouble.

Specializes in LTC Family Practice.

So I'm a re-entry nurse and I've been working out in the business field for a while - IT, Legal, Telecom etc. If these people were working at one of my previous jobs doing personal stuff on the computer at work they would have been fired end of story. When you are at work you are at work, you are being paid to do a job - not myspace, facebook, twitter, email, cell phone etc.

If they want to check on their break on their cell or laptop (not on the floor but break room) fine, but if they have enough time to play then they are not doing their job or they don't have enough to do.

It's not only immature, but oh so inapropriate, they should be worried about keeping their jobs and not about who "turned them in" that kind of behavor sets really bad examples for other employees.

Amen! :yeah:

Specializes in Psychiatry.

VERY immature.. Instead of holding themselves accountable for their poor judgment and irresponsibility, they point the finger at someone else for "telling on them." Nice.

Sorry you have to work with those goofballs.

Best,

Diane
