I work with some immature nurses.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

The other night at work, a couple of the other nurses at work were messing around on facebook, leaving each other rather inappropriate messages....while at work. Well apparently they got called into the office for it and then this morning, one of them confronted me and asked me if I was the one who turned them in. I did not. It just sets such a bad example for the newer nurses, to be honest, these nurses haven't been here on the unit that long. Anyways, it really ticked me off that they assumed it was me who turned them in, I wasn't the only other nurse working that night. I ignored their little immature activity because I was too busy with my own patient to care at that time. If they had acted professionally maybe they wouldn't have gotten into trouble.

Specializes in LTC, Med-SURG,STICU.

They need more work to do. When you are out of you mind busy at work you do not have time to goof around on the computer or care who tells on you for whatever you are doing wrong. In fact, when you are that busy you are happy to be pulled into the office to get yelled at because then you can sit down and rest your sore feet for a few minutes. Trust me I know this from personal experience.

I guess they were not aware of the facility IT Spies...they can track your every click and keystroke!

I agree. Those nurses should know better than to mess around with facebook during work hours. It just makes them seem irresponsible. As a future reference to oncoming nurses...refrain from using facebook, myspace, etc. during ur shift to avoid problems. You never know who might be paying attention to you.

yeah.....i got that from some CNAs who got turned in from working together all the time.....like they both have to do rounds together at 10PM, and at 3AM.....well, we're trying to do our nurse stuff, and rounding stuff, and chart stuff, etc....and you're call lights are going off and the only reason they aren't getting answered is because both techs are in the same room, one getting VS, other changing ice/water/emptying foleys/etc.....

so I had said a few things to unit charge, and and said once or twice when I wanted something done had to say...."who's got this patient?...not both...who's responsible?"

the next week at the unit meeting, they got talked to in private by unit manager, and they thought I had turned them in....seriously, I have more important issues to worry about...but I can vent about it, right? it got so bad, now they aren't supposed to be scheduled together as much as possible...karma comes back around....

I guess somebody forgot to tell them the walls have eyes and ears.

Fortunately, most of the people who have pulled many of these shenanigans have left our unit. We have internet access and I use it occasionally to check out an unfamiliar diagnosis. I am usually too busy to go to the bathroom, so I really have to think about playing on the computer.

as a aside, I also tend to stick to general internet use VERY rarely on SUPER slow nights....user name stuff is a general no no at our hospital....ever since we lost our internet cause some moron downloaded a virus to a physican-use only desktop....we lost our internet access for about 3 weeks, sucks when you want to look up drugs....

Specializes in M/S, MICU, CVICU, SICU, ER, Trauma, NICU.

A good argument to NOT have internet accessible at work, except for work related sites.

Specializes in trauma, ortho, burns, plastic surgery.

The internet in ANY institution has an network administrator, they are supposed to take care who and who acces internet and for what reason.... anything else much more than this...is wrong understanding of nursing duties.

A nurse duty is to be nurse in her own shift, not to fallow up what other nurses do or not....if they are not paid extra by managemnt for "undercover" nurse-detective activity...jeez....twisted ...

One a nurse instead to be nurse go on facebook

Second another nurse from 100000 reasons, could spy "for good reasons" antoher one.

Both of them they have TOO MUCH TIME. Give both of them much more work to be sure that don't have time and verify them or cut the internet....... welcome in paleolitc era...dear nurses, very concern about what is happen in another one yard....lol.

Why I fell so AT HOME now???? LOL

you know, i would have immediately added, that, "no, i wish it would have been; but someone else already beat me to it..." :D

in other words, you're signaling that you not only disapprove of their behavior, but more importantly, that you're not afraid to turn them in either. this sets the tone that you expect professionalism on their part, especially when you're around. further, since it wasn't you that turned them in, the web surfers and time wasters will understand then that more than one person on the unit will report them. this will go a long way into limiting this sort of unprofessional behavior.

Well, the next step the management will take is to block those websites. It takes just a few people to ruin it for everyone else.

Why is so hard to understand.... the state of "let's see what is happen in another yard and report it" is the first step in a hostil work environment, not at all a secure protected one.

Much more the state of "let's report" before to talk with "your colleagues" will make just to increase the adversity already created....

You think that people do for good causes...I think that they do for them se;fish centered ones. If you really care about patients you talk PERSONALLY with your colleagues, if them don't care about patients and are on face book, FIRST before to report them.

I am so sorry but I am not agree AT ALL with "police nurses" in the work program time. Is a bad way of understanding "I care"... may be this is the style....here.....but I am sure not because I seen and places where people REALLY care about patients, play and happy together..... and also dysfunctional places

Again is a managerial problem a Internet network problem who needed to have a statistic about what sites was visited and between what hours, and directly reported to management.

Next time you colleague will look probably on adult sites from hospital settings! LOOL Is not them fault, is not your duty to straight them is much more ...is UP!
