I love where I work because...

  1. Hi, I'm a first year nursing student and I have really enjoyed reading all the posts here. I often see lots of venting and c/o where many of you work ....

But I was wondering about those of you who love your place of employment. What is it that makes it a GREAT place to work?

My co-workers. I'm a new RN, been at the job just over 4 months & I'm just now starting to feel comfortable in my surroundings. For the most part I work with an awesome group of people who have been relentlessly patient and supportive throughout my terrified beginnings!! It was rough for a while there, but I was able to hang in there because of them making it a place I'd be sad to leave(and I've also grown very fond of a lot of patients). I also love the fact that it's a constant learning experience. Never a dull moment!!

What do I love about my job? Well, I work as an RN in a group home with MR/DD clients, and it is a great laid-back atmosphere. I make my own schedule, wear what I please, have my own office space, don't have to work weekends or holidays (take call alternating w/e's for 2 homes), have no one looking over my shoulder or breathing down my neck, the residents are a fun bunch of people, and I work independently. Who could ask for more??

I love my job because it is a small hospital, I have great co-workers, we have good pt/nurse ratios, and we have a healthy workplace culture. Because it's a small community I end up taking care of people I'm acquainted with. I have a manager that is approachable and supportive. I love the variety of patients on Med/Surg. Not only that, we have internet access, how civilised can you get???

Because I work with a (mostly) great group of people who help each other out and work together to make it a good environment. Also because we have some good admins and directors who, even when they can't pull increased staffing out of their sleeves, do try to help us get through the tough/crazy shifts by pitching in, ordering lunch for us up to the floor when we otherwise wouldn't have had time for any, and treating us like the responsible and hardworking people that we are.

Where do I begin? I'm a CNA in a LTC facility. The nurses on my unit are wonderful people who are always willing to teach and none of them have the "I'm a nurse, so I'm too good for THAT job" mentality. My ADON is the greatest lady in the world. She's give you the shirt off her back. And she is a fierce advocate for the residents. Less than superior care is unacceptable. Administration is made up of people with a great deal of integrity. And the CNAs know what true teamwork is. When they shipped me out in an ambulance last month, my coworkers not only came to the hospital after their shift, but they arranged to feed my cats and they spoke to my math instructor to get me excused from my final. And more than anything, my residents. They're why I get up before the sun every morning. They bring a joy to my life that I never knew I could have.

    I love my job because...

I have awesome coworkers and MOST of our MD's treat us with respect and allow us some autonomy.
